Comey was taken aback by Trump request for loyalty pledge - CNNPolitics.com

Assuming that this is true and Trump actually requested a pledge of loyalty from the head of the FBI when his campaign is under investigation, was Trump out of line?

It seems obvious that Trump has no right to demand loyalty from the man who was leading the investigation into the Trump campaign's collusion with Russia. But, I'd like to hear from those who actually support Trump and what they think about this. How can Trump honestly believe it appropriate for Comey to pledge loyalty to him when he is the subject of an ongoing investigation?

There is certainly no rational reason to believe Trump's ridiculous story about Comey seeking to have dinner with and making phone calls to Trump in order to get Trump's assurance that he could stay on as FBI Director. Comey had a 10-year appointment, and his only personal acts relating to Trump at that time was to help Trump get elected.

Moreover, if there were anything even vaguely plausible about Trump's story of the dinner back in January, then why did Trump ask Comey two more times whether he was under investigation? It doesn't make sense that Comey made any such statement to Trump (especially as it isn't true) even once; Trump's claim that Comey made this unnecessary claim three times only demonstrates that Trump is lying.

No, it's a good idea. Having the army swear loyalty directly to Hitler worked out great. It's not like Trump is some crap-bag crazy loon who can't be trusted. This is different. This time it's not some whacked-out loser who blames a subsection of the population for all of the nation's woes and threatens to either imprison them or run them off in order to appeal to the lowest instincts of a group desperately trying to regain a once glorious empire, it's..... um, ...... never mind.

I wonder why the one person who so far has voted that it wasn't unreasonable for Trump to seek Comey's pledge of loyalty hasn't explained why it isn't unreasonable for Trump to seek such loyalty from the Director of the agency that is conducting an independent investigation into collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia?

Not only is it our long-standing tradition that the FBI be given pretty much a free reign to conduct investigations without interference from either branch, what Trump has done clearly falls into the "obstruction of justice" category.

If the Republicans were to grow a "pair" and decide that enough is enough, they'd admit that Trump not only is a serious threat to our country, but also a threat to the well-being of the Republican Party. Trump's approval rating has now dropped down into the mid-thirties, and that poll was taken before this latest incident, and not only is this tainting the party, also nothing else is getting done.

I remember the last time a head of state started mandating loyalty oaths -- didn't end well...

Maybe some autocrats and dictators demand such loyalty, but we can keep this ******* from killing our democracy. Hmmmm, old Adolf Hitler made people swear allegiance to him personally as opposed to Germany.
Trump is completely ignorant of history, but 535 members of Congress know all too well the danger of one man ever having so much power.

So.... no worries, mates.
We had white, white, white, +40 more whites, then black, now orange. Heil Idiot will go too. My guess: Jan 20, 2020. Sooner would be better tho!

Not in Trump World. I believe it's a carryover from the way he handled subordinates in his previous life.

"Declare your unswerving loyalty to me or clear out your desk."

"But Mr. Trump sir, I's just the 14th floor janitor."

"Doesn't matter. Now swear your loyalty or bucket your mop before I turn you in as an illegal alien."
