Trying to learn to pray, struggling with tahiyyat, salawat

HiddenMuslimah

Alhamdulillah!
Asalamu aleikum wa rahmatullah wa barukhatuh everyone!

I've been learning to pray the salat prayers and whilat I know most of the prayers and how to make sajdah, I'm struggling with the end prayers, the tahiyyat and salawat.

I've tried various methods to learn them and it's just not working. Does anyon know any way I can make it easier?

What are you methods ?

Maybe you need to understand each word you learn.

Welcome to the forum sister.

They say the more you practice the better you get. When I memorize Qur'an, I read each verse countless times until my tongue and brain get used to it.

You could try to read each of them for about 30-45 mins and I am very confident that you will memorize them. Do one a day so as not to overload your brain reciting the same thing over and over, trust me it happens.

You should be able to find many videos on youtube with transliterated text and with audio recitation to help you better with the pronunciations.

The first one is called Tashahud (tahiyyat), the second is called Salawat and the third one (the dua) is 2 verses from different parts of the Qur'an.

If you need more help feel free to ask.

As a start, read it from a paper during the prayer. By time, you will memorize it and you won't need the paper anymore.

I've tried mostly writing it out and then repeating it, but that doesn't seem to work.

I've seen a long time ago a video about how to learn the Quran, and it helped me a lot.
I don't remember exactly the method, but you can search on internet there's many and you'll pick the one you prefer.

Anyway, mine is like that :

1-I read once the surate/verses/du'a
2-I read 7 times two verses
3-I read the first verse 7 times
4- I learn the first verse then repeat it 7 times without reading
5- I do the same with the 2nd verse (i read it, learn it, repeat it)
6- I read again 7 times the 2 verses that i learned
7- I repeat them 7 times without reading

If i learned them i continue, if not i do it again

The original method wasn't exactly like that. Sometimes it was reading 5 times, but i simplified it. And it worked very well for me.

Too bad i don't find the video, it was very helpful :(

The Online Salät Guide
Learning Salät: Qa'dah (8)

It is the sitting posture during Prayer. Tash-shahhud is recited in every sitting after two sajdahs. Durud and prayers from the Holy Qur'an are recited only in the last sitting of a Prayer.

attahiyyätu lillähi wassalawätu wattayyibätu
All verbal and physical acts of worship and financial sacrifices are due to Allah.

assalämu ‘alaika ayyuhannabiyyu wa rahmatullähi wa barakätuh
Peace be on you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.

assalämu ‘alainä wa ‘alä ‘ibädillähissälihïn
Peace be on us and on the righteous servants of Allah.

(Raise index finger while repeating this expression)
ash-hadu allä iläha illallähu
I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship save Allah.

wa ash-hadu anna muhammadan ‘abduhü wa rasüluh
And I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His apostle.

I used these videos. Don't try to use these while praying. This is a slow, word-by-word way of learning.

Then, while praying at home, I would use a video like this.

It didn't take long for me to be able to pray on my own. In sha Allah, it will help for you too.

Wow those are great videos, cocolia42! They speak slowly and pronounce each syllable. An issue I had in the past were that they were talking too fast or pronouncing the whole word. It's hard for a convert/revert who doesn't know any Arabic! There's a lot of repetition too, which is important.

Wa alaykom alsalam sister

trying is good, just continous , and don't be affriad ,cos you will have the full award from God (inshala allah), even if you miss the exact (right) spelling or move in Salat :)

I advise you to connect some muslim girls to make it easy to learn if you want :)

Some people find it easier to memorize things through listening. If you can visit a mosque and let some women there know of your situation I am sure they would be more than happy to teach you orally.

My friend , praying in islam is so easy . You dont need so much details , ruku , sajdah and qiyyam . Dont force yourself to memorize arabic quran verses to read during praying , you can pray whatever you want , pray with your mother language , and you can learn slowly some specific surahs , for example Fatiha etc ...

Please dont mind people around you those who confusing you with little details . The main movements are given , Ruhu , Sajdah , Qiyyam ... You dont need to do salawat at the end of prayer , but if you want you can say Allahu Akbar , Subhanallah , Alhamdulillah for 33 times each other or how much times you want : )

Feel free to ask ...

Salaam

(bythe way sorry for my english , its not my mother language)

I think you need to read up on salah/namaz/prayer and be better informed sister. You're telling her to not do that which she is obligated but instead to do that which she is not.

Thanks I have read it up many times and I have realized that people do everthing in their power to make islam difficult . They change islam with artificial rules was not ordered by Allah .

So, you reject the sunnah too, that's unfortunate.

So, you reject the sunnah too, that's unfortunate.

Quran just talks about the sunnah of Allah(c.c) , not Muhammad (sav)

33:38 There is no blame on the prophet in doing anything that God has decreed upon him. Such was God's sunnah with the people of old. God's command is a determined duty.

48:23 Such is God's sunna with those who have passed away before, and you will not find any change in God's sunnah.
