U.S. Won’t Join Global Coronavirus Vaccine Effort Because It’s Led By The WHO

KEY FACTS
Covax is co-led by the World Health Organization, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations and Gavi, which aims to purchase 2 billion doses of potential Covid-19 shots from several vaccine makers by the end of 2021 and distribute them worldwide.

The WHO announced last week that Covax plans to work with vaccine manufacturers to provide countries worldwide equitable access to safe and effective vaccines, once they are licensed and approved, and that 172 countries are engaged in discussions to potentially participate.

On Monday, the European Commission confirmed it would contribute 400 million euros ($478 million) to the initiative, and the WHO said Germany had joined the pact as well.

"The United States will continue to engage our international partners to ensure we defeat this virus, but we will not be constrained by multilateral organizations influenced by the corrupt World Health Organization and China," said Judd Deere, a spokesman for the White House.

According to the Washington Post, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar had "interest in exploring some type of role in Covax… but there was resistance in some corners of the government and a belief that the U.S. has enough coronavirus vaccine candidates in advanced clinical trials that it can go it alone."

The World Health Organization has warned against "vaccine nationalism," with WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stating, "for the world to recover faster, it has to recover together, because it's a globalized world: the economies are intertwined."

"Vaccine nationalism" is an interesting phrase. I don't care what country it comes from, if someone finds a vaccine which works, then why not use it? Just because Trump doesn't like the WHO?

I like the Who.

Well aren't we special! How thoughtful of Mr. Trump and his administration to turn down this opportunity for relief from the pandemic. After all, adversity builds character. Having a vaccine would doubtlessly undermine the moral fabric of America by making life easier and safer for us all.

It's pathetic that so many people who claim to be "pro-life" are supporting a candidate that is trying to force students into classrooms, force states to "open their door" even in covid-ravaged areas, eliminate the ACA that insures 20 million Americans, refuse to accept the science of climate change, etc.

Don't worry. Revoltingest will be here any minute to defend and exonerate the Trumpster. He'll explain to us once again how we're all just way over-reacting, and how Trump's policies are actually quite sound. ;)

Apparently, the U.S. still owes money to the WHO, but the Administration is refusing to pay it, and instead redirecting the money to pay for the general UN costs in New York.

Planning to quit, U.S. says it will not pay what it owes WHO this year

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States will not pay some $80 million it owes the World Health Organization (WHO) and will instead redirect the money to help pay its United Nations bill in New York, a U.S. official said on Wednesday.

The United States plans to leave the Geneva-based WHO on July 6, 2021, after President Donald Trump accused it of becoming a puppet for China during the coronavirus pandemic. The WHO has rejected Trump’s assertion.

A WHO spokeswoman said on Thursday in an email response to a request for comment: “We refer you to our previous statements of regret regarding the U.S. decision to withdraw. We await further details, which we will consider carefully.”

Under a 1948 joint resolution of the U.S. Congress, Trump had to give one-year notice of the U.S. withdrawal from the WHO and is required to pay what Washington’s owes for the organization’s current fiscal year.

Nerissa Cook, State Department Bureau of International Organization Affairs deputy assistant secretary of state, said the United States currently owes the WHO some $18 million for financial year 2019 and $62 million for financial year 2020.

“Those together are being reprogrammed to the U.N. to pay the regular U.N. assessment,” said Cook, referring to money that Washington is required to pay the United Nations in New York.

This is apparently in violation of the law, to redirect the money like that, according to a law professor quoted in the article.

Lawrence Gostin, a university professor at Georgetown Law in Washington, D.C., said in a tweet that redirecting WHO funds is “unethical...and patently unlawful”. The United States had to meet all financial obligations, he said, adding: “Trump is acting unilaterally, w/o (without) Congress & in violation of the law”.

Trump’s political rival, former Vice President Joe Biden, has said he will rejoin the WHO if he defeats Trump in the U.S. presidential election on Nov. 3.

2020.
The year I became embarrassed to be an American.
Understandable.

But, I personally refuse to be embarrassed to be an American because of Donald Trump, the awful-est boy in the world.

He is the one who should be embarrassed. And the malevolent simpletons who support him. Not us.

It's not just Trump. Trump will go away one way or another, and his not participating in a global effort to make a vaccine is just icing on the cake for what has shown itself to be a very selfish, entitled, stupid society who really rather would stick to bs fantasies and excuses to not do what is working in other countries and according to science. I want life to get back to normal. These selfish, self-centered pudding brains won't let it happen and were going to be screwed until there is a vaccine or cure. Growing up as the Cold War came to end, I was shocked when the Oklahoma City Bombing happened, but not because it happened but instead of it being carried out by an enemy I was taught to loathe, it was carried out by an American. And not just an American but a veteran of the war I was seeing on TV. I learned America was really also the first time I was really confronted with the idea that America wasn't so perfect and people did have issues with it. And eventually I learned of enough wrongs that my pride gradually slipped until it was no more.
Now I wonder if the "do for your country" was ever really a thing. Instead America is sick and dying because people think inconveniences are massive infringements on personal liberties and we have to get back to normal in the middle of a plague. But really, it's a reflection of a much larger and much larger problem, amd this America refuses to even acknowledge it has a problem. And it is a problem with selfishness, greed, instantly disposable societies, a willfull shunning of intelligence, goals so unrealistic its upfront called a dream, and everyone is in it for me.
And during this crisis it shows. Its utterly embarrassing we aren't even allowed in many countries right now. Its shameful were ok with needless sickness and death. Its mortifying that we are so committed to consumerism and self destruction that we are struggling with a virus that happens to be just destructive and deadly enough to be taken seriously.

There isn’t a suitable emoji to click to acknowledge that one.
I have felt that way about humanity in general for a while now.
I don’t want to be part of it.
The community is simply not up to the game. They are being systematically abused in every possible way, through manipulation of their hopes and fears. Very few people even attempt an analysis of their situation, they just sign on for one of the prefabricated world views on offer.
They are sitting ducks for the people I call the Paranational Psychopaths.

I don’t think the PP are organised, like the legendary Illuminati. I think they rise to power because the community does not understand what psychopathy is.
They may be of any political or religious persuasion.
Putin is a poster boy for psychopaths.
He has managed to make himself Emperor in Russia.
I do believe Trump wants to do the same thing.

Very fortunately Trump has shown he wants to, he just doesn't have the ambition, drive, or Machavelian knack to do it. (Puting on the other hand has basically become the worlds most powerful man. And didnt get there and he doesn't stay there by playing nice.

I think Putin would be delighted to have Trump as his #1 flying monkey.
If he can help to swing it, he will.
And if he can help create a situation where Trump remains in office for an extended period, even better.
Trump has the mind of a child, and Putin and Xi Jinping are the bullies he wants as friends, or at least peers.
He was even bubbly and excited when Kim Jong-un wished him happy birthday !

I had an interesting experience back in the 80s, when a friend’s father invited me to dinner, just to ask me a specific question.
He was a significant player in Australia’s intelligence community.

His investigations had led him to conclude that all the major intelligence organisations in the world mysteriously linked up at the top of each pyramid.

You may remember how Bush Snr and Gorbachev dismantled the Cold War when they each became President of their respective nations after being heads of their respective intelligence organisations...(worth giving a little thought to).

His question was simple enough. Why is it so and what does it mean ?

He asked for my opinion simply because I’m a lateral thinker, and outside the box he and his cohort operated in.

My answer was that it is probably because people want connection with their peer group.
Why do actors marry actors ? Same deal.

I should probably leave it at that.
It is so easy to get disappeared nowadays.
