Ugandan Anglican leader raps Archbishop of Canterbury

sojourner

Annoyingly Progressive Since 2006
Perhaps this bishop needs further work in Anglican studies. The Archbishop of Canterbury has always been elected by the British gov't., because it's ... the Anglican Church. And the Archbishop isn't the "leader" of the Church -- the British Monarch is. If this bishop doesn't like those facts, he's welcome to form the "African Communion," I suppose.

The Arch bishop of Canterbury was originally chosen by the King.

Like other Bishops he is now chosen by the Prime Minister from a short-list of three selected by the Church of England. This duty has of course been carried out by a Jew. Benjamin Disraeli.

That he is the leader of the Anglican Communion is not written in stone. The Synod has the authority to change this, but has chosen not to do so.
