UK and Ireland are crap places to live. It's official.

Done here.
Not the worst in Europe, despite what the headline says, but the worst of the top ten in Europe. Off the top of my head, I'd guess the worst place to live in Europe is probably Moldova.

I could have told everyone that ages ago! :D

I'm not too surprised the UK is one of the worst areas to live in Europe. (Excluding the poorer countries like, Moldova, Bulgaria, and so on)

My area is an especially bleak place to live (gun and knife crime, poverty, drug abuse and trafficking are high, as well as unemployment and poverty) - and I live in an area where they're at their worst. Someone get me out of here!

I would love forever the one who got me to Spain or Italy. :p

Well our media are certainly among the worst.

I wouldn't trust survey (not scientific study) produced by a UK company who's only motivation would have been to get some cheap promotion and thus it would be in their favour to ensure the results had the kind of negative sound bites the UK media would go for.

Their careful selection of only 10 countries and inclusion of amount of sunshine as a key factor strike me as evidence of this motivation. Quality of Life is a complex metric at the best of times and should be measured by independent professionals, not biased PR staff.

I personally consider percentage of the country within 100 miles of a racetrack or stage rally as important as sunshine. On that measure, the UK and Ireland are head and shoulders above many countries in Europe (though would probably still lose out to Finland).

Think of it this way: I'm sure if you consider the U.S. part of Europe, the UK would no longer be the worst place to live in Europe. Sounds like you guys are having some similar problems as us.

I don't mind England so much it's only the government that annoys me really. Voting in England is simply a case of choosing the better of two evils.

Oh yeah, tobacco and alcohol tax winds me up too, but that's only because I'm an alcoholic smoker

I agree but what'll we do when they've finished giving all our money to the banks and there's no work for anyone?
If you're old or sick you're goosed.

How bad can they be? Both use the English language, although they do butcher it a bit in pronunciation.
