Ultra Orthodox men can now be drafted in Israel. Thoughts?

Amakek attacked first without provocation.

Like the Zionists .. the ethnic cleansing program known as the Nakba.. but who drew first blood in a blood feud does not justify genocide, Ethnic Cleansing / collective punishment against an entire population such as committed by the Nazi's .. Pol Pot .. Suharto - East Timor .. and so on.

These are twisted values of the real freaks of History .. Bibi and crew now added to the list .. Genocide Joe close on his heels .. and would we be able to dig Rotten Ronnies bones up and burn them .. such as the Catholics did to the fellow who produced the first translation of the Bible into the commong language.

Good point .. showing the destitude morality of picking sides in a blood fued .. on some flimsy excuse justifying collective punishment .. an international crime against humanity of the highest order .. such that we should be pissing on their bodies after the beheading .. or some desecration of the remains .. as was the custom back in the good old days .. . Right ! :)

Which book? Details matter.

  • In Numbers 14:45,[24] the Amalekites and Canaanites kill a group of Israelites that tried to enter the hill country of the Amorites without Moses's permission.
That is not the first time that the Amalekites are mentioned in Numbers. It is not even the second time. Was that group of Israelites armed? If so that sounds like an invasion.

nope. @RabbiO is a peace maker. Did you know that :) ?
He is that, as well as all the virtues from the sermon on the mount, Prophet like Elijah, Physician of the spirit, and better messiah type figure than Jesus Christ imho, also has been my psychiatrist on multiple occasions. ;)

Even worse. That quote shows that it was some of Moses's men that were the aggressors. They were told not to attack the Canaanites and Amalekites and they did so anyway. Their defeat was foretold. Thank you for supporting my claim.

The story of Amalek in numbers begins in chapter 13 and continues into chapter 14. Originally there were no chapters, so the chapter divisions are irrelevant. The Israelites were scouting, not conquering. There is no mention of weapons, but, I suppose its possible. The Israelites went up a mountain, gaining a vantage. Then they were attacked.

You think things, Sub. Rarely are they accurate when it comes to religion.

This is the story, it's five verses long. No aggressors.

14:40
And they rose up early in the morning, and went up to the top of the mountain, saying, Behold, we are here, and will go up to the place of which the Lord has spoken; for we have sinned.

14:41
And Moses said, Why do you now transgress the commandment of the Lord? But it shall not succeed.

14:42
Do not go up, for the Lord is not among you; so that you should not be struck before your enemies.

14:43
For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and you shall fall by the sword; because you are turned away from the Lord, therefore the Lord will not be with you.

14:44
But they presumed to go up to the hill top; nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and Moses, departed not from the camp.

14:45
Then the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites who lived in that hill, and defeated them, and pursued them, even to Hormah.

And you are not reading your own book. There were no attacks mentioned in the scouting. And the chapter are relevant since they mark where they were first mentioned. If you read all of chapter 14 you will see that there was a rebellion in camp with people complaining that they were not attacking soon enough. A group went ahead and attacked without the support of God and they lost:

"39 When Moses reported this to all the Israelites, they mourned bitterly. 40 Early the next morning they set out for the highest point in the hill country, saying, “Now we are ready to go up to the land the Lord promised. Surely we have sinned!”

41 But Moses said, “Why are you disobeying the Lord’s command? This will not succeed! 42 Do not go up, because the Lord is not with you. You will be defeated by your enemies, 43 for the Amalekites and the Canaanites will face you there. Because you have turned away from the Lord, he will not be with you and you will fall by the sword.”

44 Nevertheless, in their presumption they went up toward the highest point in the hill country, though neither Moses nor the ark of the Lord’s covenant moved from the camp. 45 Then the Amalekites and the Canaanites who lived in that hill country came down and attacked them and beat them down all the way to Hormah."

What are you talking about? They invaded someone else's land. They were even warned not to but they did so anyway.

That's not aggressive, they were scouting. That's not an invasion.

They were lost in the wilderness. Yes they were warned not to do it, but that doesn't make them aggressive. Amakek were the aggressors.

And they rose up early in the morning, and went up to the top of the mountain, saying, Behold, we are here, and will go up to the place of which the Lord has spoken; for we have sinned.

They were admitting their sin. That's not aggressive.
