Unprecedented flooding in Florida

We Never Know

No Slack
Any memebers caught in the Florida flooding?
Up to 1-2 feet of rain being reported
Wishing you the best. Stay safe.

Catastrophic flash flooding possible’ with a lot more rain incoming to still-flooded South Florida

Tropical rainstorms in South Florida lead to flight delays and streets jammed with stalled cars

Well it is a good thing that AGW is a myth. It predicts more severe weather events and we have only had a year straight where each and every month was the hottest month on record ever (I guess it is obvious which year is now the hottest year ever). This might become every day news if AGW were a fact. Whew! I guess Florida lucked out.

I remember when it snowed in Florida. Long before the global warming craze kicked in. Of course then it was global cooling.

In 2022 Florida had light snow, sleet,, freezing rain several times.

Edit....

Ok four times. Found a link.

Hope they stay safe in Florida. Where I'm at, it's as dry as a bone. Small chance of rain next weekend.

Its fixing to hit drought season in several places/states
Changing weather patterns is also a part of AGW. No one complains about the Mojave being in a drought, at least not that I know of, because it has been a desert for a long time. It is when an area that formerly had plenty of rain and it changes that we hear drought complaints. As the Earth warms new wet areas will arise and new dry areas. The Sahara may become a grasslands again. It has been one in the past. The destabilizing effects of AGW are one of the big worries about it.

Fire season is already here. I heard that the snowpack this past winter was a little bit better, so maybe that'll help the Colorado River basin. Not sure. Wish they could send some of that flood water from Florida to Lake Mead and Lake Powell.
I thought I read or heard that lake mead was back to normal levels. Not sure about lake powell.
Of course that was a month ago.

The water levels increased a bit, but it's been declining over the past 20 years.

Wasn't that the lake 3ish years ago that was so low they were finding barrels with bodies in them(something like that)

Yes, some debris from the 70s was becoming visible. I was reading another article which said that the lake is only 36% full. They'll need several years of heavy rains to be able to replenish it back up to normal levels - and that's not likely to happen.

I listened to this interview today that explained how the US house insurance market could collapse due to excessive losses, mostly from storm damage that's increasing in frequency and severity. My home insurance was cancelled last year and my broker said it was because my insurance company had so many losses that they are not renewing policies for many people. He wasn't sure how they made decisions, could have been geographical or age of my house or whatever. Florida has seen many insurance companies leave due to too many losses. One thing this interview says that at some point insurance compaies will have to increase premiums to a point where the average homeowner won't be able to afford it, which means mortgage companies will have to foreclose. Inevitably the government will have to intervene as it's done in Florida, and provide subsidized insurance. How will it be paid for?

It may be a situation where insurance as a whole will become too expensive for average people, including health insurance. It may be that government insurance is inevitable for the non-wealthy.

No I actually lived it.

That's the problem with people who are so self assured on things to which they, from all appearances, have no first hand experience or memory of the event, but go-ahead and say otherwise to the contrary.

The one who is quite mistaken here is you on that matter.
No, a rare snowfall in Florida is not evidence for global cooling. I was alive when global cooling was in the news too. But you cannot treat the mainstream news as a science source. They are interested in the spectacular and new. There were just a handful of scientists that interpreted some evidence as indicating global cooling. They went to news sources rather than peer review. Do you know what happens when scientists do that? We get "cold fusion", we get "archaeoraptor". We do not get real science. Even when the global cooling stories hit the news papers the majority of climate scientists were maintaining their warming claims.

You should read it. In the 1970's when global cooling came out that was less than 10% of all climate scientists.

Since it's all from credentialed scientists it pretty much negates relying on those credential as always accurate.

You really think numbers vs numbers is the determining factor on the veracity of the subject? More scientists makes it true, less scientists make it untrue?

No, it is the evidence that makes something true or not. My point was that there never was a claim of "global cooling" from scientists as a whole. There was a period where our ability to pollute was causing some cooling. But people want to breathe polluted air even less than they want to breathe over heated air. That had a direct effect on people's ability to breathe and there were other problems. Plus it was easier to fix. Air quality in huge cities increased markedly beginning in the1960's and moving and moving forward from there.

And yes, numbers do show that your contention that climate scientists predicted global cooling was shown to be wrong. When it is only a small percentage that makes that claim you are wrong unless you state that only 10% of scientists claim that the Earth is cooling.

I was using that as an example, not stating it was my contention.

I don't make determinations and conclusions based on how many scientists are agreeing vs scientists who disagree.

Just admit that you were wrong and move on. When you screw up and cannot even own up to a small mistake that tells people that you cannot be rational about the larger issues.
