How about we get the money out of it entirely? We'll see who is actually supported and who is not. Every campaign is gathering people for support. For a more equal society our voices need to be more equal. On the presidential level getting rid of the EC is the first thing that has to go. Allow all our citizens to vote. And then from there we can stop candidates that simply raised a billion dollars from a dozen investors (because I'm sure they will rule fairly and without bias).
If there's no money in campaigning, then who
would control access to media? Would it be
legal to buy air time for one's advocacy?
You can't eliminate corruption by eliminating money.
The control would simply transfer to other sources,
& those powers could very well be corrupt.
The only solution (which isn't a total solution) is
the light of day, ie, openness about who pays for
what. Sure, it will pose some privacy issues, but
ain't no system gonna be perfect.
I also favor entrapment of politicians. Let them
live in fear that any bribe they take will be surveilled.
(Of course, I know politicians will never allow this.)
