Using astronomy to date religion(s)

If we can predict when the next eclipse or comet will be, why can't we use astronomy to go back in time to date when certain events happened ?

For example, Mahabharat allegedly happened in 3129BC and ended 3067BC. Apparently there were several eclipses.
Krishna ascended 3102BC

Ram was born 5114 or 5077 BC and there was an eclipse ?

Guru Nanak saw an eclipse coincidentally at Kurukshetra 1499 or 1509

The Bethlehem Star was a conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn or a Supernova
