The following is pure speculation.

I seriously doubt that Vance is the favorite of either the Trump team or the Republican Party in general. Unless he's eventually groomed to fulfill the role of useful idiot, the Party may prefer to cut him and substitute some more politically and organizationally astute candidate.

If Trump continues to decline mentally at his recent rate I cannot see him making it all of the way through 2025. Though campaigning can be strenuous. So he will not be under as much stress and it will not be as apparent.

Most men age more rapidly than normal as President because it is a highly demanding job for them. Trump never took it seriously his first term and that may have been a good thing. If he had worked as hard as Obama he would probably be even worse off than he is now.

I'm hugely impressed with Vance. Particularly his way of words, his intelligence , demeanor, and his capabilities coupled with his experience in politics.

Truth be told I want to see how the next 4 years is going to play out and if it does well he's definitely got my vote in 2028 provided I'm still alive by then.

Some predict Trump with be president like he is a father: absent. I can see him just playing golf and letting whomever run the government. It wasn't like he did much in his first term. Remember he played more golf in his first year than Obama did in 8 years.
