What is your favourite version of the US national anthem (one of my personal favourite anthems for its powerful melody and stirring words - particularly that cracking ending with "land of the free and home of the brave"!). Think, super bowel performances and so forth. I will accept Jimmy Hendrix or other purely instrumental versions, although I'm thinking more ones with vocals....

People usually say Whitney Houston's 1991 at the superbowl. It is an incredible performance, iconic for the way she is dressed as well her beautiful, spine-chilling vocals but also because of the fact that the US was then fighting in the Persian Gulf.

Nonetheless, I was really impressed by Faith Hill's 2000 performance of the anthem:
