No, a business person has to exhibit leadership in order to run a business. Maybe you and I see different on the idea of what leadership is.
Trump ISN'T a good businessman, though. Most of his business ventures have failed, and the most successful already had infrastructure in place before he got there. By all evidence he's worth way less than he pretends to be (probably why he's hiding his tax return, too). How does this display successful leadership?

Again I will have to assume your idea of leadership is different than mine. No, I have no hard fast rules that make a good leader only a perception through my experience.

Another reason Pence should be banned from office: there is not any valid reason someone with zero experience as an educator and zero experience with public schools should be over them. Pence is too anti-science, is too against the rights of anyone who goes against his religious views, and he is just too dangerous.

Welcome to the 19th century - I'm glad I don't live in your crazy country.
Your education system is vital if you are to stay ahead of China, India and of course Russia in terms of innovation and technology.
Is it any wonder that Putin backed Trump, Putin is laughing his way to world domination as the US dumbs down.

If you can read this, you are as lucky as I am.

Yup, it's a dark time.

If you can destroy what John Adams called the "4th branch of government", an educated electorate, you can dismantle everything else. This has been a right-wing push for decades really, but this might be the closest they come to success.

"I love the poorly educated." - President Donald Trump, 2016.

Are we really surprised?

This is the one that I have knowledge of that I wouldn't have minded failing to be confirmed. The red flag to me was her answer on standards, and that she wouldn't commit to demanding the same minimum standards for private schools receiving federal funds. Now, there are legitimate reasons one could contest federal standards, but I'm not sure I believe that those are her reasons. I would have rather seen a different candidate.

+ allowing more parental choice for schools
+ + due process rights
+ supporting individual school districts decisions on whether to allow armed staff or not
- - standards

I hope she works out, but I wouldn't be surprised if she is a huge mixed bag.

First time in history for a cabinet appointment to happen this way, which goes to show how unpopular a choice this was. Hopefully she'll do better than predicted, and won't succeed in allowing tax dollars to go to for profit and religious schools like she wants.

Edited for clarity.

Great. We've got a Sec of Education without the remotest education experience.

If you had any illusions that our right-wing politicians work for the people, this should put the nail in the coffin. Our children will be safe from Grizzly Bears and any form of critical thinking.

Sometimes you need an educator, sometimes you need a janitor. The education system is just a festering boil on the *** of America at this point, someone needs to lance the zit and clean the floor. Educators are great at teaching people, not so great at streamlining operations and managing finances. :D

And instead of lancing the zit, Republicans just surgically added the biggest one they could possibly find because it donated gobs of money to them. Congratulations.

Well, there goes education.

Judging by the actions recently in the news, I'd say it's been gone for awhile. I actually consider college education completely useless at this point, and even my children are rejecting it due to the brainwashing and intimidation going on there. You can learn nearly anything without them, if you are dedicated. I see very little point.

According to MSNBC this is the first time in U.S. history a Vice President has used his vote to break a tie on a cabinet position.

First time anyone even bothered to obstruct a cabinet appointment, correction EVERY appointment, to the point of ridiculousness. The appointees need to be quickly confirmed or WE suffer more, as no one can pull the trigger at the top of these divisions of the government and get things done.

I'm sure they'll be opposing Neil Gorsuch next even though many of them have approved him in the past, the hypocrisy never ends. :D
