Vices and Virtues

The "seven heavenly virtues" are a Christian tradition, but I think people from any religion or non-religion can play this game just for fun. The seven virtues are usually listed as:

1) Chastity (abstaining from sex until marriage)
2) Temperance (restraint, self-control)
3) Charity (generosity)
4) Diligence (persistence, integrity, fortitude)
5) Mercy (forgiveness, peacefulness)
6) Kindness (compassion)
7) Humility (selflessness, modesty)

The seven vices are a little more well known thanks to certain movies with Brad Pitt in them:

1) Lust
2) Gluttony
3) Greed
4) Sloth
5) Wrath
6) Envy
7) Pride

Here's a fun game: rate your vices and virtues on a scale of 1 to 10, where a 1 means that you don't exemplify that attribute very much at all and 10 means you are full of that particular vice or virtue.

Then, note the highest ranked virtue(s) and the highest ranked vice(s) of the person above you and make a humorous short story (just like a paragraph) of a day in that person's life focusing on their highest self-ranked virtues and vices.

When ranking your virtues and vices, feel free to copy and paste this template:

Virtues
1) Chastity:
2) Temperance:
3) Charity:
4) Diligence:
5) Mercy:
6) Kindness:
7) Humility:

Vices
1) Lust:
2) Gluttony:
3) Greed:
4) Sloth:
5) Wrath:
6) Envy:
7) Pride:

Virtues
1) Chastity: 5 (I certainly failed to wait for marriage, but I don't hit anything that moves either :p)

2) Temperance: 6 (I eat pretty well but boy do I drink a lot!)

3) Charity: 6 (I can never pass the bell ringers without giving them money, and I've worked in a few kitchens to help feed needy people but it wasn't my idea)

4) Diligence: 9 (I feel as though I'm very sincere and operate with integrity, I never go against my dearest held principles)

5) Mercy: 8 (It's pretty hard to make me angry, and I can't recall anything that I haven't since forgiven)

6) Kindness: 8 (My heart bleeds for everyone's woes and such :p)

7) Humility: 3 (I'm kind of a legend in my own mind, but I know my limits)

Vices
1) Lust: 8 (I'm a terrible, terrible flirt )

2) Gluttony: 3 (I know my limits, even with things like booze)

3) Greed: 2 (What is this concept of "mine" that you speak of?)

4) Sloth: 7 (Sometimes I just can't get movin'... so much work...)

5) Wrath: 2 (I just don't get angry at people.)

6) Envy: 2 (I'm content with what I have!)

7) Pride: 8 (If I had to be perfectly honest, I'm a little vain)

I'd tell a funny story about the person above me, but there *isn't* one.

Virtues
1) Chastity: 5 (If I had the oppurtunity, I would probably take it, marriage or not...probably)
2) Temperance: 7 (I feel balanced...and I certainly don't do much in excess)
3) Charity: 5 (very selfish person here as far as favors go...not too fond of actual charities either, but if you want me to lend you some money or something, sure.)
4) Diligence: 5 (At work and when my principles are on the line, absolutely. Otherwise, meh.)
5) Mercy: 6 (I forgive, unless you royally screw me over, in which case it's more of a pervasive sulking for a few days)
6) Kindness: 7 (Empathy is a pain...luckily it doesn't extend to everyone)
7) Humility: 6 (I don't like compliments)

Vices
1) Lust: 6 (horrible little perv here)
2) Gluttony: 5 (over-indulgence is like eating too much candy)
3) Greed: 3 (Not a big hoarder of sorts. Rather loose with my possessions and money...just don't touch my computer too much, k?)
4) Sloth: 8 (My major issue. Without people prodding me, I'd probably never do anything productive.)
5) Wrath: 7 (Another major issue. It's more of a blizzard than an inferno though, and is usually pretty sharp if I know the person well enough.)
6) Envy: 5 (Some people have it better than I do, but compared to where I could be, it's better to accept where I am...well, unless I can change it.)
7) Pride: 6 (Oh yeah, especially if I know I'm right, but typically I'm a little ball of inadequacy.)

1) Chastity: 10 (Never watched porn, movies containing nudity, or had a girlfriend. Even sexual jokes are very scarce for me. And no, it's not because I'm a nerd :p).

2) Temperance: 9 (I like everything in moderation, especially when it comes to food or drinks).

3) Charity: 7 (I'm guilty of not giving enough to charity, but it's something I try to do whenever I get the opportunity).

4) Diligence: 8 (When I really want to do something, I can do it incredibly quickly and accurately without sacrificing any of my principles. No shortcuts, and seldom any compromises for me).

5) Mercy: 9 (Basically, I'm a human teddy bear. :p Can't give myself a 10 here though; there are times when one just can't sympathize with certain people).

6) Kindness: 9 (I'm kind to most people, including those I can't stand. I may be mean sometimes, but it's never meant to cause deliberate emotional stress to anyone).

7) Humility: 4 (I can't say that I'm really humble with a clear conscience. Let's face it, I do like and appreciate my personality :angel2:).

Vices
1) Lust: 6 (Hey, I can't deny that I lust sometimes, like any normal person. :p However, I think I can control it pretty well, so a 6 here).

2) Gluttony: 6 (I don't eat a lot, and am not that fond of desserts, sweets, or needless eating. I have my moments though).

3) Greed: 4 (I'm thankful for what I have, and aim to cherish it rather than mourn what I don't :)).

4) Sloth: 8 (This is by far my biggest weakness. Unless there's an urgent need to do something, I'll take my time and do it slowly. A couch potato, if you will :p).

5) Wrath: 2 (It takes exceptional amounts of pestering and willful rudeness to get me angry, but when it's done, I'm terrible. If not for that, I would have rated this a 1).

6) Envy: 3 (I get jealous sometimes, but at the end of the day never want others to lose the good things they have out of spite or envy).

7) Pride: 8 (Already said it, I do like myself. :p).

Sorry for not writing a story about the person above, but I have a terrible migraine right now. The sloth in effect, you see. :p

1) Chastity: 10 (Never had sex, or had a girlfriend. I'm one of those people who have certain ideas and beliefs regarding when and how i want to be with someone. And considering what i will share in the vices, i thoroughly deserve that 10)

2) Temperance: 4 (Moderation isn't a key word in my life generally)

3) Charity: 7

4) Diligence: 8

5) Mercy: 5 or 6 (I'm extremely forgiving, there is nothing that i couldn't forgive, and consider myself generally peaceful. However, because of the lack of great self restraint, i'm not always all that peaceful, and forgiving. I need to be helped sometimes, with an apology lets say or a sign of regret in order to be able to forgive. And i have a problem with controlling anger many times, but i regret being angry almost immediately. If this was about anger only i would have given myself less, but since it also includes forgiveness i gave myself a 5 or a 6)

6) Kindness: 8 (I feel empathy for pretty much anyone. I at least have no 'decided' reservations in that regard)

7) Humility: 3 or 4 (Not arrogant or very selfish, but do tend to give myself more credit than i deserve. And am a little selfish in the sense that the world comfortably revolves more about me than anything else. And i tend to take things personally)

Vices

1) Lust: 10 (Technically a maniac, and i'm pretty good at not showing it unless when i want to. Which is why i thoroughly deserve that 10 up there)

2) Gluttony: 8 (Like i said, not exactly known for self restraint generally. I abuse a lot of things)

3) Greed: 2 or 3

4) Sloth: 8 (pretty lazy, not in all things though, and particularly not in things i really care about. But generally, yeah, pretty lazy)

5) Wrath: 8 (like i said, i do have a problem with anger)

6) Envy: 1 (That is an emotion i literally almost never get, and when i do, its not in the sense that i feel bad about another person having things great, but in the sense of wanting to do as good as others because i know i can, nothing else. Because when speaking in terms of things we can't help, i tend to think of those things as relative/subjective and/or based on experience. In other simpler words, i'm much, much more concerned about the things i have and could have, rather than the things i don't and couldn't supposedly have)

7) Pride: 6 or 7

All in all, a pretty despicable human being. :p

1) Chastity: 7 (I don't plan on sleeping with just anyone afterall :p)
2) Temperance: 7 (I can usually keep my emotion in check, but occasionally people can push me over the line)
3) Charity: 4 (I'm not amazingly generous. Occasionally I might give some money to the poor but I don't tend to give to others)
4) Diligence: 2 (I'm awful at this one xD. I tend not to see things through, despite the amount of planning that I put into something.)
5) Mercy: 7 (Another one that I'm fairly good at. I'm willing to forgive anyone if they seem genuinely sorry)
6) Kindness: 9 (Easily the one I'm best at. I'm a very friendly and open person :))
7) Humility: 8 (Usually quite humble, but I'm prone to boast from time to time)

Vices
1) Lust: 6 (If I see someone attractive I'm obviously going to lust. Then again I'm not in jail for rape so I reckon I'm fairly average when it comes to this one)
2) Gluttony: 8 (I'm very prone to addictive behaviour xD)
3) Greed: 3 (I'm not all that greedy. Heck I even plan to go into teaching, not a great deal of money there)
4) Sloth: 8 (I'm very lazy xD)
5) Wrath: 5 (I don't tend to get angry)
6) Envy: 6 (Sometimes I envy other people. But mostly because they boast about it too much, rather than a real desire for what they have)
7) Pride: 6

Badran was out at a club with some mates one evening. But he kept seeing loads of gorgeous girls to lust over, so he started hitting on a few of them. After a few great pick up line's he managed to get the number of the hottest girl in the club. But when she text him asking if he wanted to "go all the way" he informed her of his great desire to do so but his strict observance to no sex before marriage. So in the end they decided to get married quick and they lived happily ever after. :)

One day, Westy was walking back from the store, and had a case of beer in one hand, and a bag full of Big Mac's in the other. He came upon a homeless guy sitting on the street, begging for food and money. Stricken with compassion, Westy says "hey man, why don't you come back to my place, get a shower, and eat these Big Mac's and drink some beer?" The man was delighted, and followed Westy home. After his shower, he came out, and found that Westy had washed his clothes. So he puts on his fresh, clean clothes, and sits down with Westy on the couch, eating Big Mac's and drinking beers, while watching sit-coms on TV. The next morning, after a night of drunkenness, they wake up, and Westy looks at the guy, and asks "who are you, and why are you in my house?" So the guy leaves, but even though Westy didn't remember a thing, the guy remembered his kindness. The End.

Nice story :)

Kathryn

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
Virtues -

1. Diligence - gotta love that good ol' American Protestant work ethic!
2. Charity - My husband and I are both generous - but please, no more stray dogs!
3. Chastity (I'm 100 percent faithful but can be wild as a March hare if I'm not in a relationship)
4. Mercy - I have a soft heart, especially for kids and animals
5. Humility - Only if you count when I'm busy embarrassing myself
6. Kindness - Yeah, when I think about it - which is...sometimes...Like my husband always tells me, I'm a GOOD person, but I'm not a SENSITIVE person. I just act like I didn't hear him when he says that.
7. Temperance - what's that?

Vices -

1. Gluttony - Yes, I will stick my finger in the peanut butter jar AND drink straight out of the milk carton if no one is around
2. Sloth - how can I be both diligent AND slothful at the same time? Let's just say I work best under pressure.
3. Lust - Once again, it's a problem if I'm not in a monogamous relationship. Thank goodness for my husband - I can take it out on him and still take communion with a clear conscience!
4. Greed - does excessive shopping on Amazon.com count?
5. Pride - Hey, I know I look good - when I look good, which isn't what I'd call a consistent state of being for me.
6. Wrath - Not a big struggle for me. I'm pretty much a reggae kinda gal.
7. Envy - Not a problem - I don't want your stuff. Unless you've got a better phone than I do.

That story part is too hard. I'm too slothful to do it.

I prefer Ben Franklin's 13 virtues to this list. My self reported rankings do not imply my acknowledgement that a virtue or vice on this list is indeed a virtue or vice in my eyes.

Virtues
1) Chastity: 6 (I don't particularly recognize marriage or find it meaningful, but I'm monogamous and quite selective in who I'm willing to be intimate with.)
2) Temperance: 8 (Not much issue here.)
3) Charity: 6 (Mediocre.)
4) Diligence: 9 (I'm a workaholic and a long-term planner.)
5) Mercy: 9 (I feel bad for violent, ignorant people.)
6) Kindness: 3 (Eh.)
7) Humility: 2 (Not very humble, either. Depends on how one defines it, though.)

Vices
1) Lust: 7 (Lots of people are sexy.)
2) Gluttony: 1 (I don't like food much. I eat it for nourishment and try to optimize my diet solely for health.)
3) Greed: 6 (I'm a weird mix of desiring tremendous wealth and not wanting to spend almost any of it on myself and having very little desire for anything material.)
4) Sloth: 8 (I'm a weird mix of high apathy and high ambition.)
5) Wrath: 1 (Can't remember the last time I was angry.)
6) Envy: 4 (Usually when I see someone in a beautiful environment and then look around the urban decay and ugly beaches around me.)
7) Pride: 8 (Depends how it's defined. I also care about my looks quite a bit.)

I'm bad at stories.

Kathryn chills in a lovely outfit drinking wine shopping on Amazon and typing thoughtful and nice things on RF?

So basically, I am a hard working, angry and horny guy. AND I'M PROUD OF IT!

Oh yeah, the story. My truck broke down and I was walking down a road. Westy came by and I asked for a ride and he said I don't know you, you look like a biker or criminal. He went on down the road a bit, turned around and came back. A guilty conscience I suppose. He asked me if I needed a ride and a I said no, that I might would pull him out of his car and kick the crap out of him now. He said, no you wouldn't. I laughed and got in. We went on and even got pancakes. He even paid, wow.

( I was torn between who I should make a story about, Westy or Pen ))

1) Chastity: 8
2) Temperance: 4 (I have no problem controlling myself, abstaining, inhibition, etc., in general, but for a few things I'm so terrible at it that the scales tip)
3) Charity: 4 (not being able to say "no" isn't charity, which accounts from much of my "charity"
4) Diligence: 2
5) Mercy: 2
6) Kindness: 8
7) Humility: I'm not even going to answer this. I doubt everything about myself from accomplishments to innate abilities (e.g., intelligence, creativity, etc.) but I always seem to come off as a know-it-all who thinks he's smatter than everybody.

Vices
1) Lust: 1
2) Gluttony: 7 (just with drinking)
3) Greed: 3 (the only luxury things I tend to want or spend a lot of money on are books and knives)
4) Sloth: 7 ( I exercise all the time, I engage in many activities, but when it comes to getting important things done? I'm terrible. I get's that's more lack of production than sloth, but the classic list of virtues and vices makes me appear a lot better than I am).
5) Wrath: 3
6) Envy: 2
7) Pride:2

I agree. Some of the virtues and vices don't seem like either to me.

1) Chastity: 1 (Lost my virginity at 15 and had a baby by 17)
2) Temperance: 2 (I have very little self-control or restraint..but I'm working on it with my meetings)
3) Charity: 8 (I do more hours of volunteer work than I actually should, and give more money than I actually have)
4) Diligence: 6 (No examples for this, I just am, haha)
5) Mercy: 8 (I think I'm incredibly merciful. I don't hold grudges, always accept apologies that are given and am quick to apologize if I'm wrong)
6) Kindness: 9 (I think I'm exceptionally kind to all living creatures, human and animal alike)
7) Humility: 4 (I'm not very modest, but I think I'm pretty selfless)

Vices
1) Lust: 10 (I'm a lusty kinda gal..)
2) Gluttony: 5 (kinda in the middle on this one)
3) Greed: 2 (I give more than I keep, I don't think I'm very greedy at all)
4) Sloth: 9 (Oh, I'm SO lazy!)
5) Wrath: 7 (I'm quick to anger, but also quick to calm down)
6) Envy: 2 (I'm not exceptionally envious at all. I figure if I want it, I'll get it. If I can't afford it, I don't need it.)
7) Pride: 10 (this is probably my worst of the seven deadly sins. I'm INCREDIBLY prideful)
