Do video games lead to a distortion of reality?

Yep, they sure can. They're highly addictive and the newer ones bombard our senses with extreme realism and excitement.

Though there are some good things about video games. They are a great way to enhance hand-eye coordination, reflexes, and I've even heard that playing video games can raise a person's IQ.

When I use to play DOOM (or any other first person shooter (FPS) for that matter) I used to dream in first person but I have had a good grasp on the responsibilities of gaming in my waking life. It depends on the game actually. Games like the Grand Theft Auto series for PS2 did not make me want to run people over or highjack "sweet rides" but there was a certain perception adjustment for the way I would drive my car after playing the game. You need a certain "downtime" from certain games to help you adjust a bit from an intense gaming experience. That doesn't necessarily mean that one has a hard time discerning the reality from the fantasy; all that means is that the developers and the designers of a particular game have done a splendid job in immersing a player into their gaming experience.
