Virtual life

Imagine some scientists or whatever ask you to donate your body to saving other people which would kill you. However they had managed to make it possible to transfer your "brain" into a artificial construct where you could live. You would simply fall a sleep and when you wake up you would be in this virtual world that looked exactly like ours, but you could do anything you wanted and decide exactly how the simulation would behave or said in another way you could make it simulate anything you wanted. You wouldn't be able to die as such unless the actual machine running the simulation were destroyed (which we assume that it wouldn't) or you chose to end it yourself, you could have the same emotional feelings etc. as in the real world, obviously just simulated. The technology were 100% working so no errors etc. It worked perfectly. The only thing is that you would be aware of you living in the simulation and not in the real world.

Would you do it, why or why not? :)

I've always preferred the real thing than toys. So probably not, i am happy with this life. If medical science is that far advanced those other people should be no problem in saving or they could take the simulation. So such a decision would not weigh on my mind

Saving those is of no importance :D that was just so you would loose your life as a result of choosing it. There is no moral thing or "trick" involved in the question.

I'd still feel for those people who i didn't save if i knew they were dead and gone.

Saving other people would be pretty cool.
When one is playing a virtual game one tends to forget it is virtual. I doubt it being virtual would be a problem.
The experience would be an unknown. I suppose I would also for the chance at the experience.

An enticing offer, the opportunity to become god of my own Throneworld. But would it really be that? Or would my mind be instead their digital prisoner to do with as they see fit?

People do not seem to understand that death is a mercy. The greatest mercy. It is the truest peace, the only way to truly escape from this world, and from life.

To answer the question, I would refuse. I would not trust other humans to play God with my soul.

I understand that. But there is no hidden agenda so to speak, its not like you say yes and they just screw you over or anything. The only catch as mentioned is that you know that it is artificial and that you as such are not physical real with a body etc. otherwise there is no difference as such. You could choose to have the simulation be as your life is today so you wouldn't observe any difference, except that you would know that it weren't real. But obviously you would also have the ability to have a lot of fun like, changing gravity, be a policeman or whatever you would like.

No, I prefer truth and reality over illusion.
