Is there ever a good reason for war? Does war and the killing of other go against God and your religious beliefs?

A Buddhist will say that there is no good reason for war. War is arguably the human activity which causes the greatest amount of suffering - and therefore the human activity to be most avoided.

Now the sophistry side of things, as in do you defend yourself when attacked, and so on, introduce complications. Then one can get into all sorts of argumetns aout what constitutes attack, what constitutes defense, etc. Ultimately, war may be as yet unavoidable (until we as a species do some more maturing) but that does not mean there are *good* reasons to engage in this activity.

War- conflict solved by more conflict. War creates a constant cycle. I’m a definite humanist, all people are inherently good in my opinion and if we would stop our society from being driven by greed and hedonism, we could create a utopia. Whenever we think war is justified we nod our heads in agreement towards violence and destruction. War is something I will never understand and I never really want to.

Hi Engyo,

Would the Buddhists have stood by and watched The Nazi's rape the entire world ? By the sounds of your post it sounds like they would. Christ said "You should turn the other cheek." Yeah well thank you for that old son but in my experience if you turn the other cheek people will strike the other one as well.

People are evil and given the chance they will walk all over you. What should really be addressed is this what causes these conflicts in the first place ? Answer me that ?

I'm sorry if I wish for a world built on peace and love rather than war. I'm just a very idealistic person (maybe even naive in that sense). I’m not saying we shouldn’t stop oppression in its early stages but is war the key to that? Ghandi didn’t think so. I guess I’m a dove not a hawk. I just don’t think that war is just. Do you like living in a turbulent society where people can commit atrocious crimes, where fear is embedded in our heads young on? Well, I sure don’t. Sorry, if I sounded sympathetic towards those who commit violence. Those people need the most help, and If it comes to war then it does. I just don’t ever want it to come to that. Thanks for conversing.

War has its place with every other human activity.

Although to me it depends on how war is fought... Modern wars lack honor and responcibility... its too easy to kill when all you have to do is push a button and never have to actually face who you kill.

On the plus side, war is good for population control... its about all we have left to do it.

What should really be addressed is this what causes these conflicts in the first place ?

If one looks into Buddhist philosophy a bit, one finds that Buddhism does address exactly these issues. Buddhism is about cause and effect; eradicate the causes for war and conflict, and it will diminish greatly. I don't say it will vanish, of course. The biggest hurdle is that the eradication of these causes has to take place individual by individual. It is not possible to do this on a mass scale.

Of course, if you have a better way, I would be happy to learn it.

Would the Buddhists have stood by and watched The Nazi's rape the entire world ?

What I actually said was that a Buddhist will tell you there are no *good* reasons for war. There can be *necessary* reasons for war; this does not make them good.

What reasons do you have for war which sound *good* to you?

You propose a dual course of action: RESPONDING to the violence of others by NOT turning the other cheek, which only propagates violence, AND finding the cause of conflict.

Hmm... could allowing the cycle of violence to escalate by adding to it be part of the cause of violence and suffering? Nah...

He DOES have a better way! A website called www.kabbalah.info

Truth, why don't you give Runt the chance to fix the link herself. You pointed out the mistake for us all to see, which I'm sure any one of us could have made. I'm sure it was just an oversight, and not an intentional dig at you. Calm down, OK? :)

I will tell Runt to change if she wishes. I don't want to start editing people's posts.

Let's try to get along guys/gals.

Give me a break Truthseeker... it was a typo, not an act of malice against you! And you could have asked ME to change it, since I am the one who wrote it!

Look... it is fixed now.

What is so wrong with the www.kabbalah.com website anyway? It is a kabbalah website... you're a kabbalist... ???

Rex and Runt,

THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS THIS. WWW.KABBALAH.COM IS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WEBSITE TO WWW.KABBALAH.INFO. CATHOLICS ARE DIFFERENT TO PROTESTANTS, ORTHODOX JEWS ARE DIFFERENT TO CONSERVATIVE ONES, SHI'TE MUSLIMS ARE DIFFERENT FROM SUNNI'S AND YOU WONDER WHY I HAVE GOT SUCH A PROBLEM WITH THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TWO WEBSITES ???????????????? THE FACT OF THE MATTER REX I HAVEN'T SAID THAT I AM AFFILIATED WITH WWW.KABBALAH.COM SO WHY ARE ALLOWING IT TO BE CONTINUED AS SUCH ? HAVE I EVER SAID THAT I AM CONNECTED WITH THIS SITE ? ASK RUNT IF I HAVE EVER CLAIMED TO BE CONNECTED WITH THIS SITE ? YOUR THE EDITOR WHY ? IF WHAT I SAY IS TRUE THEN WHY ARE YOU ALLOWING FICTION TO BE BROADCAST ?

Truth, she fixed it. I can understand not wanting to be misrepresented. But most people don't know the difference between the .com website and the .info website. You've pointed out the mistake, and it's been corrected. Let's move on and get back on topic please. Perhaps you could point out to us in a thread in the Kabbalh forum, the differences in the websites, so that we may understand more clearly why you are so upset over this.

Maize,

I like you I really do you sound like a lovely person. Why am I so angry ? Becuase what Runt wrote totally misrepresents me thats why I am so angry.

I was here becuase I wanted to broadcast this wisdom nothing more but that has been impossible because I have found myself continually drawn into arguments that help no one.

I am leaving this site for good and I will not be posting on here again full stop.

I wish you a happy and successful future, but it is time to pull the plug on this whole idea.

Good luck Maize it has been nice speaking with you.
