Is the story of the sun and moon standing still in the bible? That is scientifically impossible, yet our friend rusra02 asked for an example of why the bible is not scientifically accurate. I shouldn't even have to go into Jesus's miracles... not a one of them is scientifically possible.

So you dont believe its possible for God, who set the sun, moon and stars into motion, to change their motion or stop their motion?

I think its entirely possible. And if he wanted to he could make it all disappear too.

What was scientifically impossible 100 years ago, is not impossible today due to advancement in technology. Jesus miracles defied the laws of nature, and so do many of our instruments we use today. Here i am, thousands of miles away from you, putting my thoughts into your mind! That was impossible until recent times.

And when you think of the virgin birth miracle, doctors are performing that almost daily now. IVF makes it possible for a woman to conceive a child without having sexual relations with a man. Children are even being conceived without sex occuring at all. Prior to the invention of IVF, this was impossible.

Flying in the sky without wings was also impossible until recent times...now we can sit comfortably in a chair hurtling through the atmosphere at great speeds and heights. Or what about mobile phones, digital imagery and moving pictures....all these things work because we've learned how to manipulate the laws of physics.

Do you really believe that the one who created those laws could not also manipulate them?

Miracles are not miracles when you know how to do them.

Give it up . . .
"Mesopotamia is generally credited with being the first place where civilized societies truly began to take shape. People around the world had been developing the groundwork for civilization for millennia: Agriculture was established around 8000 B.C. The domestication of animals for labor and food develop*ed simultaneously" [source: Ohio State University].

you dont need to convince me of that, its outhouse who is claiming:

"People of all races lived everywhere they do now, 6000 years ago"

It is called that because it was One of the first large civilizations.

It has nothing to do with some mythology you posit, that you also, cannot back up.

i think you may have missed the point

Mesopotamia WAS the first civilization...it is older then egypt or china or any other ancient place

Here is an example where current scientific knowledge and the bible agree.

Jiahu symbols - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jiahu symbols (Chinese: 賈湖契刻符號; pinyin: Jiǎhú qìkè fúhào) refer to the 16 distinct markings on prehistoric artifacts found in Jiahu, a neolithic Peiligang culture site found in Henan, China, and excavated in 1999. The Jiahu site dates to 6600 BC.

The archaeologists who made the original finds believed the markings to be similar in form to some characters used in the much later oracle bone script

That means they had proto writing 8600 years ago

I think it's possible, but as a deist I don't believe he does.

Here i am, thousands of miles away from you, putting my thoughts into your mind! That was impossible until recent times.

Walking on water, multiplying loaves of bread and fish, resurrecting the dead with a word... ?

The internet does not defy the laws of nature, it uses them. The internet and telecommunications are nothing more than harnessing electrical energy.

And when you think of the virgin birth miracle, doctors are performing that almost daily now. IVF makes it possible for a woman to conceive a child without having sexual relations with a man. Children are even being conceived without sex occuring at all. Prior to the invention of IVF, this was impossible.

I've never heard of parthenogenesis in any mammalian female, except the myth of the Jesus's birth. IVF is not parthenogenesis. Male sperm is required.

Flying in the sky without wings was also impossible until recent times...now we can sit comfortably in a chair hurtling through the atmosphere at great speeds and heights. Or what about mobile phones, digital imagery and moving pictures....all these things work because we've learned how to manipulate the laws of physics.

Again, all those do not defy the laws of nature or physics, they exploit and harness them. What is miraculous about learning to harness the laws of physics? Is it miraculous that man learned to count?

Do you really believe that the one who created those laws could not also manipulate them?

Why would he? It seems capricious.

Miracles are not miracles when you know how to do them.

Then they are not miracles.

He doesnt normally do such things, but that was not a normal day. He did it for a purpose and its well within his capability to do so.

Walking on water is performed by mosquitoes. And if water is frozen, anyone can walk on it.

resurrecting the dead is also not impossible for him....if God could create a man from the dust of the ground, why couldnt he recreate a person who had died? Of course he can do all those things. He created the entire universe...do you really think these things are impossible for the one who created all things??

A thought experiment, an interest in history, an interest in why and how mythologies and stories originate and propagate, the human freedom and right to muse on a subject?

But a woman going through IVF, don't necessarily mean the woman is a virgin.

Usually IVF is used for a couple, in which the wife cannot conceive by conventional mean - sex.

True.

I love exploring these things. Even if there is no real spiritual need to study them. It is like a giant jigsaw puzzle putting the Bible together with secular history.
