Check this out.

Alan Moore's seminal graphic novel, Watchmen, the movie thereof to be released 09'.

Anyone looking forward to this? I am.

I just noticed this thread. I saw the trailer on Thursday, and I could not be more impressed. I have had my doubts all along about whether they would be able to pull this off. I still have my doubts as to how they can fit the whole thing into one movie, but this trailer gave me goosebumps. I am now officially excited! (Apparently the director is in the process now of trying to trim it down from 3 hours to 2 1/2 hours. I'd rather it stay at 3.)

I was more enthusiastic when the rumours of Terry Gilliam's name was attached to it (this was many years ago) but I would be interested in seeing what this director does with the material. I wonder if Alan Moore would be pleased with the final product.

I doubt it, in interviews he always says he despises Hollywood and resents them making his books into movies.

Yes. In fact, he has removed his name from this movie altogether. I don't blame him either. He doesn't think it should be made into a movie, but he has no choice. So, he's doing the only thing he can by removing himself from any association with it. I think it'll be really hard to do justice to the book, although, the trailer gives me hope.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Bring it on!!!! I didn't even know this was in the pipeline, loved the graphic novel, and as I was 18 in 1988, the smiley face was everywhere...

Here's some new footage. It's mostly a reworking of the trailor, but there's a few new things. I'm concerned we aren't getting any dialogue or character interaction - that part is still up in the air. Nevertheless, this movie will ROCK on visuals alone.

Spike To Preview Watchmen

From SciFiwire;

Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Malin Akerman, two of the stars of director Zack Snyder's much-anticipated Watchmen movie, told SCI FI Wire that the film will distill a complex story and that it does the original graphic novel justice.

Morgan and Akerman were on hand to unveil new footage at Spike TV's Third Annual Scream Awards on Oct. 18 in Hollywood, at which Watchmen was named the Most Anticipated Film of the Year. (The ceremony and footage will air on Spike on Oct. 21 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.)

"It is a pretty heavy piece of literature, [but] Zack is such a visual director, ... well, believe me: It's a heavy movie, too," Morgan said in an interview on the red carpet. "But the way he shoots, I believe it's going to be accessible to people who couldn't quite sit through that novel."

The reviews are already leaking in and some of them are interesting. Rotten Tomato so far has given it 78%.

Ya' know, if this Watchman thing does well at the box-office it only seems befitting that we (the audience) should be treated to a live-action Pat Mills, Kevin O'Neil MARSHALL LAW: Fear And Loathing movie.

I want a Nemesis film first!!!!

I hate to be the cynic but I was excited when Aronofsky was attached to the project then lost interest and hope when Snyder signed on. I saw about 15 minutes of a rough draft of the film (pp stuff: unedited, no sound) and while I won't judge it on that, it did make me even more wary that Snyder has amped up the action set pieces and toned down the moral and philosophical questions the comic raises.

I have very low expectations and suspect the Rotten' rating of 83% will plummet after the first week. I hope I'm wrong.

I must admit I was a bit excited when Terry Gilliam was attached to the project. I am going to try not to let my bias interefere with this experience (good or bad).
