Wearing Religious Items

rojse

Do you wear any items that show your religious beliefs? If so, what are they, and why do you present your religious beliefs to the entire public?

BONUS QUESTION: If you belong to a major world religion and you wear items to show your religion, would you wear these items if your religion was not so widely accepted? Why or why not?

I wear a Chotki a lot of the time... It is not about the public, but to remind me to keep my hear on God and pray continuously...

The LDS garment is, among other things, a reminder of the covenants we've made with God. However, being underwear, it's not shown to the world.

Third Commandment states: "Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth" (Exodus 20:4) If you cannot make it, YOU CAN'T WEAR IT AS WELL!

This topic should go nowhere if one is a TRUE Christian that follows ALL of the bible!

Think clothing, not graven images.

Well, good thing this is in a general debate forum then!

Not familiar with that, but sounds like how I wear my Tallit Katan, which is a small garment with four fringes I wear under my clothes. I don't make it a practice of wearing my Kippah (Yarmulke in Yiddish, but I don't speak Yiddish) all the time, but it's always in my pocket for when I need it. 'Bonus question' can't really apply to Jews, as we're never 'widely accepted' as a matter of course.

I used to have this really cool cross necklace. It was very pretty. I didn't really wear it for religious purposes, since I wasn't part of any specific religion... I just thought it was gorgeous. :)

I see a lot of women that wear simple necklaces with a cross on them. Graven images too, right?

And I suppose a rosary is out.

Until a couple of months ago I wore Tulasi beds around the neck always. It wasn't to show off the religion but because of the significance of having Tulasi close to the self.

Otherwise to the temple and during festivals we would all dress up in fancy Indian clothing and jewellery. Some people would wear these things all the time but most people just wear it during special occassions to create the right atmosphere. It was fun.

I used to wear a gold ankh, until I got mugged..lol

the aknh of course needs no introduction...

However I tend to wear things on a chain in my clothes...under my clothing, not out on public display....

I have a hermetic tatoo also, its deliberatly in a place that shows little....

I don't understand the need to "advertise" shrug

I am currently wearing a piece of obsidian. Gemstones are magickal and religious in nature to me. I have also worn a pentacle at times. I plan on getting a gold ankh as well.

See "pentacle" above. Why? I am not, nor will I ever be, afraid of my faith.

Miraculous Virgin Mary and, of course, St. Jude medal, due to the fact he saved my house. You can see them, they are around my neck. Tatoo also, cross on ankle (small).

Bonus ?: I'm not sure how I would answer that. I think, however, the answer would be yes.

Mr. Cheese - any chance we can see where your tatoo is?:D

I wear a bronze pendant that was stamped at a Renaissance festival with a pentacle on one side and a green man on the other. For me and since I am male, the green man represents the masculine energy within nature and remindes me that my masculine nature does not necessarily represent agression and negativity but my masculinity can be nurturing and positive. The pentacle for me represents the five spiritual elements of earth, air, fire, water and all four of those combined makes up the fifth element of spirit or wholeness.

I don't very often wear it out in the open because for the majority of the time I wear collared shirts for work and I don't think the pendant looks good when I wear it over my collar. But when I wear a t-shirt like on the weekends you can bet it is out in the open.

My spirituallity is in the minority and as I grow older I have less personal qualms about being open about my personal beliefs. I have met very little resistence to my beliefs and no one really askes me about my pendant when I wear it out in the open.
The comments I usually get about it are that it is cool or something along those lines.

Implying that there are fake Christians? Do you know these fake Christians on sight? What constitutes a "fake" Christian? To follow "ALL" the Bible, one would have to refrain from wearing 50/50 or 60/40 cotton/poly clothing. Shall we examine your labels?

Further, Jesus weighed scripture and was taken to task for that by the religious authorities of the day. Shall we not also weigh scripture, as he did?

As a good Jew, Jesus would have worn any number of things that would have identified his religion.

Preach that to the Christians. I am not one so I will do as I please within my own religion.
