Weight Problems

Druidus

I've been overweight for years. Not massively, but a good 30-40 pounds. In this past year, I lost some 20 pounds, through some various reasons. I weight about 215 pounds at 5'11, and I'm still trying to lose that last 20-25 pounds. I've found that one of the best exercises is to play with children. Gods, those kids are crazy! My 12 year old brother brought a bunch of friends over to play snowball games. I went out and played for a while with them, and I was tired out in minutes! How do they do it?!?!? Anyway, does anyone else have weight problems?

Hey!, I'm there too at close to 230. Ten more pounds and diabites kicks in. My exercise problem (apart from the dislike of "formal" exercise for exercise alone) is that I don't have the staying power and really need the frequent "time outs" for my heart. Just bringing in the groceries is done in three segments (and there are no stairs to climb).

Hehehe, I remember my doctor at the time saying I should lose some weight and I got down to 180. Meanwhile, he had been running and lost more and wanted more from me. It was a bit depressing and I've put on more weight in those 20 some-odd years. ( I have jeans in 3 sizes and none of the suits fit).

Im 6'5, 270 lbs. According to BMI, I would be severly obese, but what the BMI doesn't consider is that muscle mass is much heavier that fat mass. Im guessing Im about 30-40 pounds of fat mass over-weight. I work out alot, so its difficult to tell if I've lost any fat wieght with a scale since its constantly up and down. Guess Ill know when my wieght problem is done with when I go from 28% body fat to aboput 15%.
I love lifting wieghts and aerobics. I try to get to the gym every day to work out for 1 or 2 hours, then I do about 30 push ups and sit ups in suana at 250 degrees ferienhiet. I get in 20 push ups, sit ups and jumping jacks, 100 crunches, and at least a 10 minute jog in every evening. Now that its warmed up were I live, Im adding in about 30 minutes of trampoline jumping.

My problem is not being overweight, but being slightly underweight. I'm only about 7lbs underweight right now, but it still sucks because I get tired far more easily than I should.

Luke Wolf has a point. Muscle weighs more than fat. I have always been considered 20 to 30 lbs overweight, I weigh about 155 to 160, but I have a low body fat percentage. When I was in the military and had to get weighed in for every PRT I was told to be overweight so they had to do a percentage test and I always came out with less body fat that those who were of "average" weight. So, that is why I don't really worry about my "few extra pounds" ... they are muscle and I'd like to keep that.

Well, not ALL muscle I'm sure, I have my curves I'd like to keep too :biglaugh:

The charts suck!

When I was 17, I was borderline obese according to the charts. At 5'9", I was 194 pounds at 5% bodyfat. :banghead3

My weight throughout my 20's ranged from 220 to 300 pounds. At the beginning of my current round of weight loss, I was going to try to lose 100 pounds. That would have brought me down to 190. After doing a body composition test, I had to re-evaluate my target because I had 223 pounds of lean mass. For all the work it takes to put it on, I can't see myself losing 40 pounds of muscle just to hit a meaningless number. When I find a spot where I look and feel good, I'll stop there.

I've never been heavier than i am now at 190 lbs at 5'11"ish (just under), i feel best at 165-168 lbs, but it seems i don't need to put on much weight for it to obviously show, so at the moment i'm trying to lose weight again. I can't imagine what its like for people with a weight problem that affects their health, and feel nothing but sympathy for them, i hate it when i see people being mocked by their friends, or sometimes even strangers, for being overweight because a lot of people can't help it, and it can happen to anybody. Luckily its quite easy for me, i just cut out snacking between meals and stop eating crisps (potato chips) and chocolate etc for a couple of months.

So, yeah, i hope all you guys who want to lose weight will reach their goal weight quickly. :)

I'm about 5 kgs heavier than I should be, and not of muscle content. I'm trying to loose more weight, but it doesn't help that everyone in my family's fat. (My 14 year old borther weighs more than me!!!)

So dieting makes me feel guilty, because then they think that I'm saying something about their weight or whatnot...

Wow, I didn't know it was such a problem. I've always found it hard to lose weight, but it was only because I never exercised. It's been about six weeks, and I've lost fifteen pounds. Running and weight lifting do it, every time. I go about 30 minutes on a treadmill, or, preferably, outside (just that it gets mighty cold here, for running), and I do 3 sets of weights, at 20, 15, and 10 reps. Each time I reduce the number of reps, I increase the amount of mass I lift. At some point, I would love to be able to run nonstop for five kilometres. That is my goal, so I have to increase the distance I run, to increase my endurance, and consequently, the time I run increases too.

This has worked wonders for me. Very soon, I might reach my goal of 200 pounds, which I haven't been in three years.

Believe me, it is actually fat for me, it's very noticable. While I probably have more muscle than the average person, I also have more fat. (26.7% fat)

The problem is also aggravated by my rather large bones. It sounds like a cop out, I know, but I have massive joints and bones. I think it would take more to break one of my bones than the same of the average person.

As a consequence of those large bones, very little fat can make me look very much bigger.

Well, I almost always stay this weight - I can't lose weight because when I start exercising more, I start eating more! :D I'm pretty darn short (5'4") and almost 140, so I'm a little overweight. But for a singer and a rugby player, it matters most that I'm healthy respiratorily.

Good luck for those who need to lose weight :)

I'm obese (sp?). I love to work out, and would if I could. I have so little free time...by the time I get home I have 2 hours with my kids before they go to bed. After that it's chore time. When I was laid off a couple of months ago I was going to the gym 4 times a week 2 hours a day. I've always been big but when I was 17ish I was 230 lbs and playing hockey and skateboarding I could keep up with 90% of the people on the ice. It was priceless to see some poor little fella skating his heart out and realise he was heading into the corner with me and hadn't gained any ground on me. My main problem isn't lack of activity, because I'm always going, I don't move like most people my weight, in fact I move pretty damn good and people are always shocked when they hear my weight. My problem is I can't stand eating vegtables. I would love to be able to eat correctnly. I wonder if hypnotheropy works?
