What a Wonderful World...

The Voice of Reason

Doctor of Thinkology
A song for everyone...
I love the line about friends shaking hands.

WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD
(George Weiss / Bob Thiele)

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

The colours of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shakin' hands, sayin' "How do you do?"
What they're really saying is "I love you"

I hear babies cryin', I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself, what a wonderful world

Oh yeah

Nice song , but for some reason , I perfer this one ..

Look for the bare necessities
The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife
I mean the bare necessities
Old Mother Nature's recipes
That brings the bare necessities of life

Wherever I wander, wherever I roam
I couldn't be fonder of my big home
The bees are buzzin' in the tree
To make some honey just for me
When you look under the rocks and plants
And take a glance at the fancy ants
Then maybe try a few

The bare necessities of life will come to you
They'll come to you!

Ah, Kreeden - you've posted a true classic. Listening to Phil Harris sing it in the movie "Jungle Book" was a great memory - my twelve year old son still sings it from time to time. :)

Devo's BEAUTIFUL WORLD was an inspired moment for me. I REMEMBER the video they had with this song. It was a collage of negative images (war, lynches, executions, lust) running contrary to what they were singing.

BEAUTIFUL WORLD
It’s a beautiful world we live in
A sweet romantic place
Beautiful people everywhere
The way they show they care
Makes me want to say
It’s a beautiful world
For you
It’s a wonderful time to be here
It’s nice to be alive
Wonderful people everywhere
The way they comb their hair
Makes me want to say
It’s a wonderful place
For you
Hey
Tell me what I say
Boy ’n’ girl with the new clothes on
You can shake it to me all night long
Hey hey
It’s not for me

Carrdero -

I never saw that Devo video, but it sounds like quite a juxtaposition. The version of "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong (as pointed out by Spinkles) really is about how wonderful life is, and how lucky we are to experience it. My guess is that Devo was making the same point, by showing the images that underscore the insanity of those that don't seem to "get it".

Anyone heard Joey Ramone's cover of What a Wonderful World? A man with a voice almost as distinctive as Mr. Armstrongs.

Here's a huge (albiet virtual :( ) hug for you, TVOR! You get the 'eerie' prize of the day because I've had that tune in my head. I'll admit I had bad connotations of it for awhile, having seen "Good Morning, Vietnam" at a too-young age, so whenever I heard it I would imagine it the way the presented it, juxtaposed with all the horror around. I'm glad I'm finally at a point again where I can celebrate it as being a perfect way of capturing how I feel about the world, as a majority.

My favorite line is
I see friends shakin' hands, sayin' "How do you do?"
What they're really saying is "I love you"

By the way, everyone here on the forums, how do you do?

This song gives me hope for the future,

"I miss you more than Michael Bay missed the mark
When he made 'Pearl Harbor'
I miss you more than that movie missed the point
and that's an awful lot girl
And now, now you've gone away
And all i'm trying to say is 'Pearl Harbor' sucked
And i miss you

I need you like Ben Affleck needs acting school
He was terrible in that film
I need you like Cuba Gooding needed a bigger part
He's way better than Ben Affleck
And now all i can think about is your smile
and that @#*$&! movie too
Cause 'Pearl Harbor' sucked
And i miss you

Why does Michael Bay get to keep on making movies?!
I guess 'Pearl Harbor' sucked...
just a little bit more than i miss you."

I haven't heard it, truth - does he do it in the same slow style as Armstrong - or does he "rock" it?

TVOR

Does it like a Ramone should, brief and catchy.
