God is Unknowable

All the people have formed a god in the world of thought, and that form of their own imagination they worship; when the fact is that the imagined form is finite and the human mind is infinite.

Therefore consider: All the sects and peoples worship their own thought; they create a god in their own minds and acknowledge him to be the creator of all things, when that form is superstition—thus people adore and worship imagination (or illusion).

That which we imagine, is not the Reality of God; He, the Unknowable, the Unthinkable, is far beyond the highest conception of man.

Somewhat like Santa Claus, but doesn't deliver nice presents.
They can, if they want, even greater gifts. Kalidasa was a dumb villager. Goddess Saraswati gave him the power over words. He wrote some of the most beautiful poetry in Sanskrit later including Meghadoota. You might have heard of it.

Namaste,

Maybe when one arrives at this type of junction it may be best to go into some type of introspect, deeper thought, meditation. Intellectually some things can't exactly be described, we do not have the full capacity to describe the taste of an orange, if we eat a sweet cool orange on a hot day we would struggle to explain it exactly.

When it is often said in simple English, its beyond words is not saying that it cant be understood, some of our faculties have limitation, each has there use, language has its use but its not complete, especially with these types of questions.

This junction is the defining junction, the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

We are gods to those lesser than us in the grand scheme of spiritual evolution. Likewise those who have preceded us in spiritual evolution are gods to us.

God is The Supreme Father , The Supreme Soul.
The other gods or deities are human beings with pure souls.
Instead of saying characteristics ( because he isn't physical) , If it is what are His attributes/qualities ?
They are innumerable , to name a few ,
He is

The Purifier
Remover of sorrow giver of Happiness
Ocean of love , purity , knowledge , happiness ,peace
Sun of Knowledge
True giver of Salvation
The true teacher , The True Guide
Boatman ,Lord of the Garden
The Merciful one
The One who doesn’t experience pain or pleasure
The greatest Magnet
The Eternal Surgeon
The Ever Pure
The Truthful One
The Bliss Full One
The Benefactor
The Liberator
The Creator of the New world and the Destroyer of the Old World
The Lord of the poor
One who changes thorns to flowers
The innocent Lord
Egoless
The Altruist

Definition would be , according to my faith , ' A point of light residing in the incorporeal(soul) world'
'A point yet encompasses many oceans'

Have to modify these questions a bit so they make sense for me. Pardon.

What are gods?

Whatever some human decides to call a god/goddess/deity/spirit/kami/theoi (or other assorted analogous or roughly analogous terms a human might want to use). Deification is an expression of personal or cultural values, so why something is deified varies quite a bit. Deification means something likely has (or in some cases, had) an important role in human affairs that is worthy of respect. Often this means the thing deified has powers that humans do not, or is on some way greater-than-human. Often it means its a personification of various forces of reality that govern human lives whether it is wanted or not. But it depends. It really varies. Regardless of the reasons why something is deified, dedication is pretty meaningless without associated practice. Along with deification comes worship, or meaningful practices that honor, revere, or celebrate the thing called a god/goddess/deity/etc. IMHO, if someone isn't actually worshiping the things they call their gods, they aren't really their gods.

What are these god?

Not really seeing how this is different from the first question.

What are the charateristics of gods?

That's entirely dependent on what it is that has been deified, but covered some of this in the first question. If you want to know the characteristics of some particular deity, study up on it, both through stories and through direct, personal experience. In any case, considering the limitations on human knowledge, take always with grains of salt.

What is the definition of the gods?

Not really seeing how this is different from the first question either, aside from I wouldn't say there is any "the" definition of anything, gods or otherwise. Definitions of words are never fossilized like that. They're symbolic constructs used for the purposes of human communication in particular languages.

Mind you. I know your "god" can be the universe. Im referring to god as deities only.

I really do not understand what you mean here. Gods are deities, deities are gods. They're kinda synonyms.

That makes sense. I know it varies, but the ones I bold are usually ones from monotheistic religions. However, in paganisms, I don't know if it is completely opposite or just have a more variety of traits than monotheism has regardless whether the definition can be pin pointed or not.

I really do not understand what you mean here. Gods are deities, deities are gods. They're kinda synonyms.

I was wondering about that.

Here's my mindset between spirits, deities, and gods.

Spirits are souls of the deceased and personal or non-personal soul of what and who something and someone is. It's the who rather than what of a person or thing. Weird as it sounds, I'd consider objects who they are rather than what they are since you can have a personal connection with an object and making it personal and personifying it, it becomes a who.

God(s) are what and who we place as objects of worship (collective for reverence and practice etc.) A pronoun for the actual person or object of worship.

God(s) become deities when they are worshiped as god(s). They are just objects or persons rather than deities when they are not worshiped as god(s).

So god(s) and deities are related to each other, but if I made an edjamecated guess, they aren't synonyms to each other.

Unless I messed everything up. (No pun)

If you personally refer to your god(s) as a personifications, then maybe deity would be a better term than god given you just made it a "person." That's the only way I can figure the definition of deity but outside of calling it a person or entity (a who), I wouldn't know how that is the actual same as objects of worship (the god(s))

What is god?
A wildly over-valued, abused and misused concept.
What is this god?
Whatever one decides it to be.
What are the charateristics of god?
Whichever appeal to the believer (or to the practicioner, since deities are best used by not exactly "believing" in them).
What is the definition of this god?
Whichever one feels like.
Mind you. I know your "god" can be the universe. Im referring to god as deities only.
Mine? No, I don't like to use the concept. Although I do have a degree of appreciation to the Shinto Kami, Hindu Devas (particularly Shakti) and pagan deities.
But I would never take any deity too seriously. That would be disrespectful and abusive.

You remind me of the times when people wondered whether I was a Hindu.

Do you wonder if people find it strange that an atheist says things like that?

Ha ha, not at all. Let them wonder. I have not parted from my culture and mythology even when I am an atheist. Mythology is stories, they do not need to be true. :D

For some, God is a LOVER. And so God is a lover, indeed.
For some, God is a FATHER. And so God is a father, indeed.
For some, God is a CHILD. And so we again are a child because God is a child, indeed.
For some, God is a LIGHT. And so we see everything, clean or dirty, flower or bug, alive or dead. Indeed.
For some, God is not existing. And so we indeed only think, “what is existing”. Indeed.

But for ME, there are MANY Gods. Many are my FRIEND. God is my Friend, who makes the adventures better. I go on my merry way, all sorts of adventure. There is the association of the devotees of God. Or Gods. Or no God. These associations are individual Friends and combined into ONE Friend. We have adventures. And then God comes, too. Oh yes. And man, it is really sweet, and sour, and soft and loud and all these things at once together.

God for me, makes the EXPERIENCE easier. But my end game is the experience.

God is my Friend. And sometimes, it’s nice to have Powerful Friends. But I also might at time find myself having “tea” with a Demon. But that is ok. I make my merry way. We can all laugh about it later.

I couldn't help but be reminded of something someone explained to me while they were stoned out of their mind. "Mary the Mother... Mary the Lover... and Mary the Plant..." Then something about world peace and Marijuana being the Tree of Life and solving all of the world's problems.
