What are your phobias, If you have any?

I have an extremely bad phobia of buttons. I can't wear anything with buttons, and I can't even see one without getting sick to my stomach. I'm not really sure why I have this phobia, but I've had it for as long as I can remember.

What about you guys? Any phobias or phobia stories?

You might be able to overcome your fear of buttons by contemplating your navel.

Sorry...I couldn't resist that.

Seriously, I hope you find a way to overcome your phobia. I have a number of phobias myself, but none unusual enough to post here.

I do have a phobia that immediately come to mind - reptiles. I am literally terrified of them; however I think that that stems from parental warnings when I was young.:)

Lol, whales - makes me shiver just thinking about them. Luckily i don't come across many in my day-to-day life;) .

Needles. I'm pretty sure if I was ever tested, I'd have a clinical phobia of them. I hyperventilate and cry every time I have to get a shot, and they have to resort to drugging me to the teeth at the dentist to do any work with me.

Bigots. I break out in a cold sweat and clench my fists when they make themselves known.

I can deal with buttons (though I prefer velcro), water, fire cockroaches, I LOVE whales and swim with them when possible, needles don't phase me a bit.

I have fears that seem normal because I do not have physical reactions.

However, my biggest fear that has caused me to break out in a sweat or keep me awake at night is my fear of drowning or having my family in a fall out shelter that is not flood proof. When 9/11 happened I had trouble sleeping for a long time because I was afraid that if we were to be in a fallout shelter that was not flood proof.

I don't like spiders or snakes one bit. I wouldn't say that I have a phobia of either--seeing them on the nice safe TV is ok--but it takes me awhile to get myself psyched up to kill a spider, and with snakes, its pretty much just the initial shock of seeing one that I have to get over, before I take a broom and start poking it.

The closest thing I have is crowds. I love people, but the crowds make me nervous. I can't concentrate around them, because there's so much noise. I just prefer to avoid them.

I avoid crowds too. No bars, clubs, etc... I like to be alone or with a few people and have the noise at a minimum. I remember going to prom and dancing, I only wanted to dance on the edge of the floor, but people just started moving around me pushing us into the middle. I couldn't breathe and almot passed out. It was bad.

Yes, I like small to mid-sized groups myself.

In HS, I was forced to go to the prom. I didn't date then (and still don't), and well, I spent my time at the bar eating. There was simply too many people, the music was too loud, and well, I had a few people around there I could shovel it with...and when there's a few, I do like to talk. A lot.
