what can a couple do that is really cheap or free?

Aside from the obvious;):D, what are some ideas you guys may have of activities a couple can do, places they can go, etc. for a date or just to do something together that are super cheap(about less than $10 for each of them) or better yet free? Maybe as a thought booster: what do you and your significant other do for fun together, or your friends do with their significant others? And yes ideas on what they can do at home are welcome, it doesn't HAVE to involve going OUT somewhere.

Let me eliminate the obvious ones so I can force you all to be a bit more creative:p

Taking a walk/hike anywhere
going out to eat anywhere
Movies

So what sorts of ideas do you guys have?

Some clothing optional resorts here in Colorado have admission rates under $10. You go, you hang out naked in the hot springs, and you've only paid $7 per person for a whole day of relaxation.

Write a story or a poem together. Alternate writing each paragraph or couplet. Costs nothing. When you're finished, read it aloud to each other.

Work on coming up with an act together to perform at some local venue for their open mic night. Then do it. Go to open mic night and perform the act for the audience -- together.

Find some work -- such as cleaning up a creek -- that folks are asking for volunteers on. Then volunteer for it. It's not romantic, but it does promote bonding to work together for a common goal.

I like to go out to the lake, take some drinks, build a fire and roast marshmellows.

Stay at home and play a drinking game together. There are lots of games, and some of them are quite fun. Invite one or two other couples for added spice.

Well mine answer was going to be "aside from the obvious" so you have already cleared that one!

I am not a relationship expert as I am not in one myself, but one thing I get the feeling of is many couples dont get time to sit, relax and talk and listen to one another. If you have a fire, light one, if not use candles anything to give a romantic atmosphere...a bottle of wine and just sit, chat and relax, talk about old times, look through wedding pictures (if you are married)

Read my blog as a couple and then compete with each other to see which one of you can best and most creatively describe how horribly it bored you and how foolish it was to read my blog together and how many years it will take you to recover.

BOARD GAMES! There's nothing more fun (to me and Jay, anyway), then sitting at home, with a couple of beers and just shooting the ****, playing Trivial Pursuit and Yahzee all night! Mix in with that a couple of games of Cribbage and Texas Hold 'em and you've pretty much got our weekend right there.

There's a bit of "go for a hike" in this one, but it's different: at the conservation near me, they have a bird feeder trail. The birds all come there for food and they're used to people, so they'll actually eat out of your hand or off your hat.

Also, not quite in the "go for a hike" category: when I lived nearby, I'd visit the Wonders of Winter every year. It's a big display of lights in a park in Waterloo, Ontario. I imagine you may not be that close to Waterloo, but there may be similar things near you.

When I was a kid, one of my favourite things to do would be to ride the subway all over town with my grandmother.

Other ideas:

- Shakespeare in the Park-type shows
- college sporting events (though some can have quite high ticket costs)
- auto racing (depends on the date, I guess) - admission to a local circle track on a Saturday night can sometimes be cheap (though sometimes expensive), and you can see other types of racing for free (e.g. Ontario regional amateur/semi-pro road racing, most rallies)

Make it a habit to turn out all the lights and instead make due with candles for at least a half hour to an hour before bed each night. That makes the day magical.

It's a bit more than a date, but this past summer, my wife and I tried bike camping: we rode from our house to the local provincial park, stayed overnight and headed home.

That one did break the bank, though: it was almost $15 per person. :0

Which is the best?

Valley View Hot Springs up in the San Luis Valley, Jay, is by far the best clothing optional resort in Colorado that I've found. They have a website with current rates, which I think have gone up to $15 or $20 for the cheapest overnight stay. Best to check though. They are currently closed until after Christmas.

The Well near Cannon City, which is a party pool, use to have rates under $10 for the day. But those might have changed --- I haven't been there since the place re-opened under new management.

And play shadow puppets!! Jason and I had a blast playing shadow puppets for an hour by candle light the other night, when our power was out.
