What do you think causes the most preventable deaths and why aren't we doing more to prevent them?
Sugar and fat.
Followed by pollution.
Because current political ideology is about unbridled irresponsible free market with nil consequences.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
What do you think causes the most preventable deaths and why aren't we doing more to prevent them?
Cars.

But I don't think we should prevent them anyways.

Too much safety and security is a recipie for lethal disasters in the long term.

I would say… personal irresponsibility, and people blaming everyone but themselves for their own mistakes. Then you end up with:

-Not enough exercise
-Poor diet
-Poor time management
-Unhealthy lifestyle
-Risky behavior
-Stupid choices
-Lack of motivation to improve your life
-Inability to accept your flaws and weaknesses
-Refusal to comply with the law, and blaming others when you are at fault
-etc

Some days ago, I was in a bar (our bars are coffee and pastry shops).
We were drinking an espresso, sitting in a beautiful veranda.
I take the espresso with at least three sugar bags.
My colleague while he was smoking yelled: Are you crazy? Three bags of cane sugar? That's unhealthy!

I looked at him, with my eyes weirded out: "sweetheart, I have never smoked anything in my life. I love sweets, and I am a vegetarian. Don't you think cigarettes are unhealthy instead?".

and he: "that's a myth,..cancer has nothing to do with smoking"

Denial is not a river in Africa. I smoke but I know what I'm doing.
