What Culture or Religion do you Admire beside your Own?

I want to hear details! I think this could be a very interesting thread. I will share mine as well :) I have to say I am in touch with my Jewish heritage enough to say I like the Jewish religion and some of the things about it. I still admire Christianity as well, and there are some beautiful churches that are absolute works of art. I admire Japan as far as culture goes. I think Japan has the absolute most interesting culture. What about you?

I admire India. It is one of the birth places of magic. I've studied the magic that they done, and actually performed it as well. I love the culture, especially the older culture.

Speaking of India, have you ever heard of the Milk Miracle? If so, you may be interested to google it. It was one of the miracles of Hinduism.

Oh, wow. I'll bet I could find something admirable in all cultures and religions. Everyone has something to offer.

You just can't beat the Golden Rule, so I admire anyone ~ regardless of beliefs ~ who makes this a part of his or her philosophy.

Because I often identify Christianity with this wisdom, Christians easily warm my heart. (Plus most of my family is Christian, including my husband, so it's no surprise that I see the good in it.)

I've just started learning about Islam, and I find so far that I like Muhammad. Thanks to Maro, I learned this quote:

"O mankind! We created you from a single soul, male and female, and made you into nations and tribes, so that you may come to know one another."

I take this to mean God wants us all to coexist peacefully.

I just love the basics of Buddhism. The Dalai Lama inspires me to be a kinder person. The effort I've put toward respecting and cultivating compassion for all living beings has made a positive impact on my life.

I'm terribly ignorant when it comes to Judaism. Now that I am focusing my interest on other religions, I plan on fixing this in the future.

I've never met an Indian (as in Indian from India) that I didn't like. There's so much about the culture that I respect. There's this gentle kindness to most of the Indians that I've met and I find that I navigate towards them. I LOVE Indian decor and the vibrancy of their colors and life. Love it.

I'm also greatly attracted to Parisian culture and still fantasize about going to France some day.

I also love Irish culture. I've attracted to it because of my Irish roots. My cousin, Sandra has been on numerous occasions and her scrap books and stories have deepened my adoration for the music, the dialect, the alcohol and so on.

For the most part, I'm attracted to European culture(s) in general. I'd love to go to Finland because Finland seems to produce such great music.

Religions...I've always been curious about Wicca. Catholics and Mormons are rockin' people, in my opinion. I don't know many Jews but I have a lot of love for the faith.

But Hindus are probably my favorite. I know so little about Hinduism but I've always been intrigued.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
I really admire a lot about Japanese culture and the Shinto religion. I love, love, love the peacefulness of Japanese art and architecture, and the dignity and respect that is given the family and ancestors.

I admire most of what I know about Buddhism.

I love a lot about Indian culture as well - I agree with others here who have mentioned the overall kindness of people from India. I also love the colors, the vibrancy of the art, and the FOOD. Yum!

I love a lot about German culture - even the brashness of the German people. I get a kick out of them. Also, they do things RIGHT - right on time, neat as a pin, extremely efficient and dependable. As for music and art and architecture - wow, their Baroque and Jugenstiel (Art Neuveau) eras are very hard to beat.

Focusing specifically on religion, I forgot to mention the culture of the Southern US.

Every time I visit, I like it a little bit more. The people are so open and friendly (which, I might add, was very strange to me in the beginning...I'm not used to that). And polite! Teenage boys hold the door open for me. Small children say, "Excuse me," even when they're being cute little rascals. :)

Had a hard time finding vegetarian dishes in the deep South though. :p

The old classic Chinese culture and Japanese Taoist. As well as The Buddhist. Those would be mine the kindness the sense of community and the connections between all things in the world.

I appreciate Indian culture a lot. More particular Hinduism, Sikhism and/or Punjabi culture. ;)

In fact, in the ancient days, India was considering the place to go for knowledge, education, and arguably good food. :D

I respect all cultures and religions (or lack there of) and seem to find a beauty in each as I learn more about them.

Judaism... coming from a Christian home and deciding Jesus was not God, but still having a hard time separating from Abrahamic beliefs, the Jewish religion naturally stands out to me.

My top three countries to visit before I die are Egypt, Norway, and Greece...I have a facination wth mythologies and have only learned since being on RF that these "mythologies" aren't even that, but rather beliefs that still thrive today. I love that!

My mom is from Brasil so I have natural love of that culture...so vibrant and fun!

Any religion that focuses on humility and the envirnonment shines to me also: Native American, Buddhism, Hinduism...

I am... fascinated... by Japanese culture...

There is much I admire in what I know of classic Japanese culture, especially Bushido. There is much in it that repulses me too.

Yeah, I'm the same way, O Emu. Some of it I like. Some of it I find disturbing, even though I try not to judge and just understand it.

I think almost all cultures have something admirable about them. Mostly, I really enjoy music from other cultures- I listen to sitar music (it is because I am George Harrison fan, but...). I like classical, Native American (right now,R. Carlos Nakai), Celtic music (Particularly Celtic Harp by a fellow named Patrick Ball), Spanish and Brazilian guitar music, and on and on.
I think music is a great thing we can all share, regardless of culture.

I've always had a fascination with Sufism and find Iranian/Persian art, literature, music etc to be extremely gorgeous.

Zen Buddhism is pretty neat too.
