What Do I Believe? (#2)

Inspired by this thread: What Do I Believe?

I'm joining in on the fun too! Post what you know about my worldview, values, habits, etc., without searching any of my previous posts.

You strike me as a mathematician who has a proper understanding of English, but isn't afraid to break the rules of it if necessary (or if it creates a good pun). You strike me as someone who may express that they don't like to debate, and that may be true, but that if the situation calls for it, will set that aside in order to try to make healthy points, especially if the subject is in relation to society.

You strike me as a masculine personality, maybe just a little bit like @lewisnotmiller in that regard, but with your own cultural differences.

You strike me as patient, rational, and relaxed, which means if I ever have to try to put myself in your shoes, I have to think differently than my emotional, contrarian thought processes. And sometimes I may forget to do that, and misunderstand a point made.

I'm nowhere near being a mathematician, but I do enjoy the subject and have some university-level understanding of a few of its branches.

And yes, sometimes an opportune pun or joke can justify forgoing grammatical sticklerism!

Which cultural differences do you have in mind?

That's an interesting and detailed answer. Thanks for the thoughtful post!

I made a comparison of yourself being a masculine personality similar to @lewisnotmiller , but I also wanted to express that you two weren't exactly the same, that I see some differences, especially in specific threads, and I then thought about what those differences are. It's hard to put my finger on an exact, precise answer, but then I thought that the differences between you and @lewisnotmiller are probably more cultural in nature.

I recall that you subscribe to Marxist philosophy.

I have realized that different people have widely varying assumptions about the label, so nowadays I lean more toward saying that I sympathize with some concepts from Marxist philosophy. I'm not a communist, for example, and I don't believe in some universal set of actions (e.g., violent revolution) that all societies must go through before prospering, but many people assume that sympathizing with Marxism must entail supporting those concepts.

Also, I think you are personally influenced by the teachings of Gautama Buddha.

This is absolutely correct!

I understand what you mean. A friend of mine who has a Political Science degree is influenced by Marxist philosophy, and he doesn’t hold radical views on anything.

People tend to know little about some philosophies, ideologies, and religions. Often, much of what they know, I think, is misconceptions.

A lot's already been said! But, I'll add...

You practice meditation, sometimes using your belief that free will doesn't exist to aid it. This belief also helps you in accepting the unacceptable in this sometimes difficult world. However, that doesn't mean you won't try your hardest to fix what you can, and stand up for those who you feel are being oppressed(perhaps some of this is coming from relating deeply, as you live in a culture that sometimes requires you to suppress parts of yourself for the general public).

Emigration is a dream of yours, though it'll be important for you to choose a place that's supportive both of human rights and extroverted natures, as you are very extroverted.

You love cats, preferring shorthaired compact ones. However, you can't own one due to allergies. You have excellent taste in music, and enjoy horror movies, finding them to release stress(the build up of the plot, release of the end, and a reminder that things can be so much worse, if memory serves).

You began a religious journey on RF, coming here as a young Muslim who wanted to prove those wrong who opposed you, and instead found logical and reasonable arguments for there being... nothing. Despite your becoming an atheist yourself(with Buddhist leanings), you are supportive of those on their own journeys.

Hey, unfair! You already know me too well and have an advantage for this thread!

To add to the above list, I also added the two glomp emojis, and I like using either of them when the occasion arises, like right now. :glomp:

I’m sorry to say that I don’t really know that much about you or your worldview, even though we have been on this forum for about the same length of time. Although, there may be several things we disagree on I have noticed that your posts and responses are always respectful. I think being a person of integrity and sincerity is important to you.

I know you have some marxist ideology but maybe small m marxist? I know you have an amazing grasp of a language that's not your first language. That you live in and amongst people you can't fully share your beliefs with. You're clearly intelligent, and you're also thoughtful - in the sense of thinking big thoughts, but also thoughtful in the way you relate to other people. You always add to the conversation, whatever it may be about.

Thanks for the kind and keen observations!

I enjoy your contributions to the forum. They're not the most frequent, but I regularly find them insightful and thought-through. Quality over quantity!

You're welcome, and deserving.

And thank you in turn, but this was supposed to about you. And besides, now I have to try to live up to that... :grimacing:
