What do Jehovah's Witnesses think of this:

Matthew 5:11-12

King James Version

11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

What do you think of verse 12?It says you get a literal reward in heaven. How can that be?If we don't have a soul in our body that goes to heaven?:)

2 Peter 3:3-13

New International Version

3 Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4 They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” 5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. 6 By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. 7 By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.
8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.[a]
11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.[b] That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. 13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.

It says in verse 13 there will be a new heaven. So the one it talks about in Matthew 5 is the original heaven.:)

It’s the Resurrection = bringing back to life those who have died.

We (JW’s) have been reminded no to post links onto public forums.
Rather, we should send links to individuals privately, who show an interest.

Since I have no way to contact you privately, I’d encourage you to visit JW.org and search that site.

In fact, go to “wol.jw.org” — you can search from the search bar, at top. One word (topic) at a time, might be best.

The question was about what a Jehovah’s Witness thinks… Not about what Jehovah’s Witness literature says.

Of course, a Jehovah’s Witness might fully want to express what he thinks by quoting the exact words, sentence, or paragraph that is taught by JW’s elders, but that then requires quoting what you say you cannot quote… stuck!

I’m pretty sure you can express your answer to the questioner without breaking JW rules. Expressing your summary is not quoting. It is showing that you understand (!) and are able to state in your own words. I see the situation when I meet a JW on the street and ask a question. They refer to the words in a brochure … and I say, ‘Please don’t show me the brochure… just tell me in your own words’ … Silence… I walk away……

Referring the requester to an external site does not ADD anything to the chain of responses to the thread question and requires every viewer with interest to go to the site and maybe read a different interpretation of what the questioner thought.

However, I’m not seeing how the question is specifically set towards JW’s.

The thread title sorta kinda hints to it....
Yeah, sorry, I meant ‘the topic’ of the question.

Do JW have a problem with these verses that they are singled out for a response? I might have missed an argument somewhere where JW’s had dispute with the verses.

That shouldn’t be a problem. Honestly, how many times has that happened?

We prefer using the Bible instead of our own words, though —it’s words are more powerful than our own Heb.4:12) — and many of our brothers and sisters haven’t committed to memory, passages that discuss every subject!

Yet we still go door-to-door, not knowing who’s on the other side. That should give you some idea of the confidence we have in our message.

No, the OP used to do that quite often, address JW’s to the topic. Frank doesn’t do it too much anymore.
He’d even PM me, to get my attention. I would rather he go to our online search library, to get better and concise written answers.

I’m more of a speaker than a writer.

When I see a JW Marketing their magazines, I go over and pick one or more. Of course, they start a conversation like ‘Do you believe we are in the last spiritual age?’. Well, that’s fine - it’s the topic of the day that day. But after that there’s nothing but:
JW: ‘Have a look at this verse!’…
Me: ‘No need, I know it, tell me something else about the last days?’
JW: ‘The scriptures says, “The moon will not give its light … and people will be lovers of themselves - I’ll show you here in this verse….!’
Me: ‘Thanks for the magazine. You’re doing a great job … bye!’

By the way, that statement, yes, is DOUBLE-ENTENDRE… it’s not despising, though. Too many of the witnesses are sent out unprepared or only able to read a verse but not actually explain what it means… Yeah, they were sent to bring attention to the verse and it’s immediate implication as taught by the elders - but they then start flapping and revert to looking at the same or maybe a different verse. Can you see how, to someone who doesn’t know the Bible, the ‘immaturity’ of the witnesses could actually put these people off?
The magazines are ‘fairly’ useful but ultimately they include articles that make me go, ‘Uh, no!!!, that’s not what the scriptures says, or, what that scripture means. At least it says those chosen by Jesus Christ are going PARADISE, and not HEAVEN, like three-Gods-One-Person and the likes, say!

Last spiritual age”?

No, that’s not Jehovah’s Witnesses.
We don’t use terminology like that at all.
I wonder then: have you really listened?

Now, we do talk about the “Last Days.

Take care.

Nitpicking!!!

A big touchy, aren’t you?

I said, ‘Like’… I didn’t use an actual JW person’s words. If ‘Last Days’ is what it is then that’s what you substitute into the analogy!! It’s the SPIRIT that counts.
