What do you do for exercise?

"Be strong", I whispered to my coffee.

There is no doubt that regular exercise boosts your energy levels. It improves your muscle strength and boost your endurance. Exercise sends oxygen to your tissues and helps your cardiovascular system work more efficiently. It helps improve your heart and lung health, and you have more energy to tackle daily life

My exercises regime has changed considerably since moving to France. We (husband and I) would take long cycle rides, 80 to 100km at least once a week. After my husband's cancer operation he was unable to ride and i found it boring on my own. So now i / we walk around 10km a day, weather permitting. I have an exercise bike I use regularly. And of course, housework is exercise (or so i keep telling myself)

How about you, what do you do to exercise?

I walk every day a mile-and-a-half to six miles depending on how the knee feels. In fact, I'm going to head outside and start my daily walk here presently before I run a few errands.

I used to cycle up and down the Cuyahoga Towpath from Akron to Cleveland and back each weekend (about 80 miles) about 10-15 years ago.

He took a picture of himself cleaning the porch of the vacant lot next door. (A hobo had been dumping people's recycling and sorting though it.)

Housework - meh, I do as little as possible LOL, but that would be for fine motor skills. Yardwork - that's the strength training, and I should be gaining big if the old saying of "no pain, no gain" is true! And Mon thru Fri I drive out to my son's house and let my grandog out for an hour or so for him to take ME walking.

As I have mentioned before I am a competitve cyclist, and race year round. It gets a little harder every year as the young guys have their advantage over the older guys. I gotta say, the 50+ crowd of racers are exceptional. I think it's because if you are still racing at 50 you were always pretty good, and you have experience and drive that younger guys don't have. Keeps it fun.

I’ve been doing mild bodybuilding. Day One: 3 sets of squats, one arm rows, reverse flies, bridges, and then curls. Day Two: Overhead press, bench press, wrist curls, reverse wrist curls.

I go for walks regularly, mostly just to be out and embrace the day. I’ve started jogging 15 minutes three days a week too recently.

I’m not consistent by any means. But I’m of the opinion that a little is better than none.

I do 45 minutes of cardio every morning (elliptical). Average day for me is 25,000 steps and about 80 floors because of my job. I was lifting weights for about an hour a day, but I stopped in November because I'm old and lazy.

My father in law was still riding with a competitive training group (if not in road races) until about 2 years back and he's mid 70s. Would go 60km twice a week at speed like it was nothing.

Basketball for me. I still play at a pretty decent level competitively (albeit overs 30s, but given that I'm 49...)
As if last week I was 7th in the league in scoring, 2nd in threes made. Not bad given I'm a good defender.

I'll occasionally fill in for an over 45s team as well, but that's definitely slower paced

Also coach, which involves 2 training sessions per week and I generally join in with some of that, plus a couple of games which has no cardio (for me) but gets the heart rate up anyway...lol
