What do you guys think of April's Fools' Day practices?

Hello foo... I mean, guys! (ehhm, not sure about the grammar on the title)

This tradition is practiced in different ways. Some do friendly pranks and some others boldly lie straight out. Some jokes/pranks/lies are harmless and friendly while some others are harsh and rude.

What do you think of it in general?

I personally don't favor it in general since basically it is based on lies. I think this could seriously encourage the sense of lying in us and specially in the youngsters and those with weaker will.




Some important side story:
I told a friend of mine that it is a Western tradition (it came out spontaneously without bad ill intentions, and since we both were Arabs having our own traditions and heritage) alien to us and it is based on lying to others. He ignored the "lying" point and said it does not matter being Western, which I completely agree with, but this is not my point. The point is that I owe my Western friends an apology. I'm sorry.

I absolutely oppose April Fool's Day pranks.
So I voted OK/good.

Note:
A "lie" is an intent to deceive, with connotations of wrongful intent.
A prank is more temporary (or even obviously fictitious) deception for mirthful intent.
Think of how many great stories & jokes begin with.....
"This is a true story."
(The movie, Fargo, is a famous example of using this as a running joke.)

granted.....for lack of humor....
some people have only a few smiles in their life and living.
some people are sooooooo stuck up.....their faces would break if they giggle.

Rather than setting aside a day for pranks, I'd like to see people lighten up and laugh every day. I don't think we need to set up pranks that much...most of us seem to do and say things that are pretty funny/embarrassing fairly often without much help...I see plenty of examples here on RF every day...

If you think about it, there's a lot of things we do based on deception. Haven't you ever been to a surprise party or anything like that? =)

As Rev has noted intent is king here. If the "prank" is malicious and the intent is just mean, that is not particularly cool. If the intent is simply amusing mischievousness, then all is well and good. Too many of us take things too seriously and we need a reminder from time to time that sometimes life is just silly. What most do not like to admit is that lying is an integral part of human communication.
