That was only part of the story, a tiny part. There's any number of links to all sorts of events and atrocities. Your lack of addressing the entire story indicates to me that it is at least mostly true.

And I have a personal reason as well. Avatar Meher Baba's followers from all over the world were contributing money to the Meher Baba Trust in India for the upkeep of his samadhi (tomb/shrine) and the development of the land the trust owns. The current government stopped us from supporting that Trust overturning a policy that was in place since Meher Baba dropped his physical body in 1969.

Jai Baba,

All charities in India are required to register with the Government and get approval to receive donations from foreigners who are not Indian Citizens. This registration is renewed every five years. The current registration for Avatar Meher Baba Perpetual Public Charitable Trust is up for renewal but for reasons unknown to us the approval is not forthcoming. We are making all efforts to get the approval renewed as early as possible. In the meanwhile, we request all foreign Baba lovers not to send any loving donations to Avatar Meher Baba Perpetual Public Charitable Trust till further notice.

In His Love,
Framroze (Falu) Mistry

Further, overturning the policy that was in place from 1969 until earlier this year, the Indian government has decided that all foreigners are a threat to the Indian military: Restrictions at Lower Meherabad and instituting crazy requirements for His foreign lovers visiting his Samadhi

We are required to maintain a register for non-Indian visitors at the Samadhi, who are staying in private homes or hotels in the area. Because some of our Baba pilgrims from abroad are not staying in Trust facilities, we do not normally maintain records for them, and that is why the Government now insists we sign them in at the Samadhi itseself, with passport and visa details. Please present your passport at our security post on the Sabha Mandap near the Samadhi on your first visit to the Samadhi, and sign out again when you leave the Ahmednagar area. Each time you come for pilgrimage, sign in once with your passport, and sign out when departing the area. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation.
i do not like to post long messages. i do not have the time and inclination to do so. if you want information on a particular event, i will try to provide it. i would not reply tp a media article mentioning a hundred of them.

as for the meher baba trust or any other ngo, what the government is asking is to show the source and how the money has been used - nothing more than that. is that unreasonable in view of the fact that some of these organizations are not using the money for declared purposes. terror money also comes in this garb. i do not think there is anything wrong with that. the trust should ask the government for reasons for the delay and if the government fails to do so, the trust should go to the courts. same for foreign individuals. what is their declared purpose of coming to india and were they found to indulge in activities other than what they had declared. the government needs to know this. if trust does not maintain records of that, then they should start doing that. who knows if a terrorist comes in the garb of a baba devotee. the trust should cooperate with the government.

My second concern with the current govt. is it's continuing territorial losses to China.
How China has been nibbling away at Indian territory
Tactic of denial over Chinese occupation of Indian territory could prove costly

The inability to be assertive against China has also affected our relationship with allied states in the Indian Ocean
India and Maldives | The shifting wind in Male

The same can be said for Nepal which has shifted from a pro India to a more neutral stance over the last 10-15 years.

If you look geopolitically, China is India's greatest threat. If that is so, EU and USA are the best allies India can have in the long term. Given that, the attempts by Indian foreign service to assassinate Sikh separatists in USA and Canada in styles more reminiscent of Putin than a democratic State is suicidally idiotic. Who will trust India now? Sure, they want access to our economy and markets. But you can kiss strategic defense cooperation goodbye.
U.S. Queries India on Alleged Plot to Kill Sikh Separati think st
the real loss was in nehru's time, some 14,000 sq km. we have taken back the galwan area, what is disputed now is the hot spring area. it is not a big area and the talks are continuing. it is not worth starting a war with china. we are using economic curbs to influence them. there is no inability in this. chanakya said we should use sama, dama, danda, bheda towards the enemy. war is not the only solution. we are using sama, trying to tell them that normal relations with india will be more beneficial for them.
i do not think nepal being neutral is any disadvantage to us. let them be. i think nepal knows that india is their real friend for all seasons rather than china.
sure, china is belligrant towards india, that is why we are trying to improve our armed forces and have joined quad.
i think, you have fallen for trudeau's statement without his providing any evidence for it. however, trudeau is not going last long, he is there only for a few months. even us arresting some one in Czech republic is a us strategy to browbeat india. i assure you that india will not be brow-beaten by such tactics.
it will be a loss to usa in dollar terms if they go back on defence cooperation with india, we will find alternatives. india is the biggest arms buyer in the world and the most powerful nation in indo-pacific region to counter china. don't worry about that.

how come so many non-indians do not like modi's policies and the indians as a whole vote again and again for him? let us discuss the indian prime minister's policies. has his policies ever differentiated between the majority hindus and minority communities (muslims 200 million, christians 33 million, sikhs 25 million, not really minorities); people of native beliefs; buddhists 10 million, jains 5 million, and a few left-over zoroastrians and jews? what exactly is he blamed for?
stats from: India population (2023) live — Countrymeters
History will determine the success of Prime Minister Modi. Did his policy unite or divide Indians?
Religion and religious leaders can use religion as a tool for gaining and maintaining power. If all groups and castes in India feel law order and trust.Mr Modi will be seen as a Nelson Mandela. If not the optics will be different.
Admittedly Mr Modi will win again.Everyone else competing is not as good and cannot deliver. The question is in democracies from USA to India why there is a shortage of new young candidates for the top.

- i think, all differences on caste will go in modi's next term. i see two things happening. first, all consideration for affirmative action (reservation) will be based on the economic condition of the family, thus making caste irrelevant. secondly, with the promulgation of uniform civil code, the differences between religions will also become irrelevant.
- the shortage of new leaders is because the current opposition crop is family based. be it rahul gandhi in congress, omar abdullah and mehbooba mufti in kashmir, akhilesh yadav in uttar pradesh, tejasvi yadav in bihar, supriya sule in maharashtra and stalin in tamil nadu. if mayavati in uttar pradesh and mamta bannerjee in bengal are not married, they are promoting their nephews. they would not let new leaders come up.
- in contrast, bjp is a cadre-based party. it encourages new crop. modi and shah did not inherit their positions. so also the bjp chief ministers - yogi adtyanath in uttar pradesh, khattar in haryana, dhami in uttrakhand, patel in gujarat, deputy fadanvis in maharashtra; and the newly appointed say in chattisgarh, yadav in madhya pradesh and sharma in rajasthan. they have come up the ranks. the only other cadre party in india is the communist party but it has lost appeal all over india except for the state of kerala.

You asked for my opinion. I provided it. Your attempt to justify what I consider unreasonable, unwarranted and unprecedented policies do not move me in the slightest. My dislike for Modi and his policies is unchanged.

Both alcohol and tobacco are revenue earners for national and state government. And prohibition has not proved successful in any county (Gujarat and Bihar have that in India and it is giving rise to illicit trade, bribes). Of course, most of the prominent BJP leaders neither drink nor smoke (it is because of their training in the mother organization, RSS), but that cannot be the national policy.

These days, young educated people do not smoke as the advisories about health risks have reached home. Also, smoking is not allowed at many public places. Let old time smokers like me pass away. But tobacco agriculture and manufacture of indigenous sal-leaf-wrapped cigaretts (bidis) provides livelihood to a large number of people. That cannot be stopped quickly.

As for alcohol, since prohibition does not work, my suggestion will be bringing down the cost of alcohol as well as the taxes on them. The reason is that at the moment the cost is too high for common people. That effects the money left for the family. Then, alcohol will not be a thing like grapes on a vine that cannot be reached, but something that can be used commonly as it happens in western countries. If people have reasonable amount of alcohol at prices that they can afford, then people will learn to live with alcohol. Of course, I do not see this kind of policy coming up in Modi regime.

Aupmanyav - enjoy your cigarette!
Now, I am on a cigarette diet. My wife allows me only two and a half cigarettes a day. I have smoked my quota for the day but have a half left which is meant to be used tomorrow morning. But because of your wish I will smoke it now and will not have the half cigarette in the morning tomorrow. Life is not all roses. :D

The writings of Arundhati Roy have become popular but not mainstream in Canada in large part due to her coverage of US and Canadian foreign policy in the War in Afghanistan.

She paints Modi as the most militaristic and aggressive option in Indian politics. She has also gained favor among some for her denunciation of the Indian government's handling of Kashmiri separatists and aggressive stances towards the Naxals.
Who ares about the likes of Arundhati Roy in India except the elite pseudo socialists?
These literary or journalistic awards are given for political reasons. These Magsaysay and Booker awards are not going to fool us.
So, what should we do? Encourage, feed Kashmir terrorists and Naxals? What a foolish stance!

ps why not just lie and secretly buy a hidden pack.

Your Happy.
Your wife is happy.
What one hand does not know.
At my age, I do not lie to my wife. I have passed that age. Moreover, my wife controls the purse. I have no money on me. I will need to ask her for money and she would surely ask the reason. The other monies are controlled by my son. You see, life can be wonderful without money and mobile phone. I have the computer to talk to you people. That is enough. :)

BTW, Kashmir will have open democratic elections in the summers (foreign observers welcome) after the national elections (31 days from now - April/May). After that Kashmir will be ruled by peoples' own representatives.

Again BTW, The interim Kashmir budget announced by the government of India for the current year is $14 billion, which is 4.5 times more than Pakistan's IMF bailout request of $3 billion.
Population of Pakistan: 231.4 million, Population of Indian Jammu and Kashmir: 15.6 million, Population of India: 1,428.6 million.

PM Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi are a craze in Pakistan today. Pakistanis pray for nothing better than a Prime Minister like Modi.

Modi shows his sagacity and vision.Trump RECENTLY has said he would invite Putin to attack NATO delinquent countries. This in future could include the United Kingdom and the Federal Republic of Germany. In the past you has Kennedy JFK ,G Bush I who would instantly come to the defense of India. With Putin's poodle Trump he would not lift a finger to help India .Russia is very near India unlike far far away USA.It poses a future threat.Firstly just like Russia beat India with a crash landing to be first Lunar Lander ON the first moon and stealing the glory.India was the first successful touch down. Space is the future threat for minerals.Next after oil India as many private companies eg Adani. When Russia runs out of oil it will possibly eye these Indian big companies just like the current state takeover of big Russian private companies.

Indian Oil Limited, the government enterprise and companies like Reliance have prospecting licenses in many parts of the world.
Moreover, India is going big on solar energy. One of the Modi's promises is to have solar roofs in 10 million houses.
We too plan for it. Government is subsidizing installations.
No one will help India for free. We have to stand on our own legs.
