What do you think of smoking ?

I've never seen any studies that show unequivocally that non-smokers working in the hospitality industry have a higher incidence of smoking related illness compared to the general public.
Anyone wanna try?
Smokers are far more respectful of others sensibilities than the rabid anti-smokers. Can I ban someone from my presence if I consider them ugly, or they stink? Storm as an athlete do you train outdoors?

In the 1950's in excess of 50% of males smoked and a slightly lower % of women. Why then is the incidence of smoking related illness greater now, per capita, with less than 20% smokers? (my country)

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
I am married to a light smoker (1/2 a pack a day at the most). Personally I don't like the fact that he smokes at all. However, he was a smoker when I met him and fell in love with him, so it was my choice to accept him as he is without ******** and moaning.

I come from a family of "light smokers" though. What I mean by this is that for some reason, people in my family don't seem to get addicted to smoking - it's purely recreational and very occasional - not every day or even every week.

My doctor even told me once that about ten percent of the population lacks a particular gene that predisposes a person to nicotine addiction. Not sure if that's true or not, but it seems to be the case in my family.

Smoking makes me feel bad though, even if it's enjoyable at the moment. It makes me feel a little hungover or headachy so it's definitely not worth it.

It stinks too. Personally I am glad to see bars and restaurants and clubs and other public places restricting or banning it. However, I think that should be left up to the owner of the property rather than the government.

I'd better change clothes so I can fit in.

You know what cracks me up?

The death rate is at 100 percent. We're all going to die of something.

The issue with smoking though is that it does create particularly bad ways of dying - and not just for the smoker, but also for those subjected to second hand smoke - especially children.

I do think there should be laws in place to protect children from smokers. I hate to even type those words because I can feel NANNY STATE LAWS all over that idea, but damn...little babies and smoke, pregnant women who smoke, kids stuck in a car breathing second hand smoke...it's really sad and VERY harmful to them. They have no choice in the matter.

It's a tough problem.

Have a look at posts#22&24 and tell me about second hand smoke.

CDC - Fact Sheet - Health Effects of Secondhand Smoke - Smoking & Tobacco Use

There is a higher incidence of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome with babies of smokers.

There is a higher incidence of serious asthma in children of smokers.

Children of smokers have a higher incidence of bronchitis and pneumonia.

Children of smokers have a nigher incidence of ear infections.

Honestly, this is just common sense. Your house is filled with smoke, you're going to have more breathing problems.
