What does marriage mean to you?

I am really interested in everyones opinion on what marriage means to you all? I am not looking for definitions unless it is your own personal definition.

It's a promise between a man and his wife that they will strive to live together in harmony and faithfullness. It also means being able to spend eternity with that person.

Something society expects of two people who want to live together, have sex and raise children.

What does marriage mean to me? I really don't care since I doubt I ever will be married.

I think it's a union of two bodies and souls who love each other.

As I have been married twice and when the divorce goes through...divorced twice, I don't really know if I can answer this without a lot of thought. My question is...Orion...WHY are you asking this??? I guess I can always go wake you and find out :p LOL

Don't get too scared hun:D . The reason I was asking was because of the thread "What's wrong with premarital sex?" The debate seemed to be going in the direction of trying to define what marriage was, so I thought it was best to come here and see what everyones opinion on the subject was. I will take a shot at answering the question though.

To me marriage is a union between two consenting adults that are joined together by love, commitment, honesty, and trust. Whether or not this union is legal is irrelevant to me. I have no problem with two people wanting the legality aspect of marriage but to me it is a far shot from what marriage truly is.

I have never seen such a bunch of cynics in my life! :biglaugh:

Marriage is the union between two people who wish to spend the rest of their lives together, through the good and the bad; to help each other and to complement each other's weaknesses and strengh.

As a Christian, I can also enjoy the thought that our union is one blessed by the Lord, and that hopefully, our children have been brought up in a home full of Love.;)
