What happened to Christian Rock

Is it just me or does it seem like Christian Rock has gone downhill and become superficial? There is a Christian station in Iowa (KZZQ) that for almost the first ten years used to play really heavy Christian rock from 9 p.m. to midnight and I used to love it. I built a pretty big collection of tapes and cd's just from listening to that. When they cut it out of their format, I asked one of the DJ's why and the part that angered me the most from his response was that they had gotten more donations after they had cut it out. On top of that it doesn't seem like Christian groups are really coming up with anything all that inspiring anymore and christian stations are just playing the same songs they have been playing for the past few years. Maybe I am being too selfish here and whinning too much but it seems like Christian Rock's glory days were in the mid to late 90's and have long passed away.

Sincerely,
SoliDeoGloria

The only Christian Rock I ever liked was from the 1970s -- Phil Keaggy, Randy Stonehill, Honeytree, Keith Green. And I didn't like all of their stuff, by a long shot, but some of it was good.

EDIT: But then, the mid-to-late-1970s was the only time in my life I was ever disposed to listen to Christian Rock in the first place. :)

I love Keith Green for the fact that he was quite the pioneer in his day. Have you read his autobiography? I feel that Keith Green is very underrated.

I haven't read his autobiography, but I thought his work was generally superior to what you usually get in the Christian Rock genre. Both musically and lyrically.

It's been replace by the more contemporary Worship Jams.
Yes. And personally, I enjoy it.

They don't air the harder stuff...but it's still out there.

I listen to KLOVE. They play contemporary but in their music store...they sell EVERYTHING. They have TONS of hard Christian rock and metal. I have Yahoo Music Engine...so, I started to bring up some of these artists and I would have NEVER guessed that a lot of those bands were Christian bands...there's some pretty hard core stuff out there...you just have to search for it.

I totally agree. Christian music had it's glory days in the 90's. There are just not enough people that like what you and I like.

I am just beginning to discover some great alternative Christian music bands.

Bands like Everyday Sunday and Lifehouse are two alternative Christian bands that I highly recommend. I am downloading some of their stuff now.

Go to www.radioY.com and I think you will like what they play.

Seriously, I've been trying to remember the name of that group for the last six months, no joke. Thanks for freeing up my brain.

You won't get any heckles from me. I know exactly who you are talking about. I am downloading their stuff now.
