Happiness is an aggregate of self-esteem, sense of purpose, social interest and kindness, sense of humor and aesthetic appreciation.

Happiness is having a liter of cold pale ale and a nice shepherd's pie.

I guess you can throw in social acceptance, appreciation of the Arts, and a set of goals.. but mainly its the beer thing.

Happiness arises when one has no or very few insecure attachments, when joy and the flow of life come easily.

Do all humans (regardless of race or religion) desire to be happy or is happiness simply a by product of life?

I don't think you need a sense of purpose to be happy. I hope not... I feel happy sometimes, and I strongly believe my entire life is meaningless. (along with everyone else's... what I'm saying here is that it isn't a self esteem issue... I just think life as a whole is meaningless.)

But I think happiness is different for different people. It is just a feeling of contentment. For instance. I feel happy when I'm sleeping with Baggins, because I'm comfortable and don't have to worry about working while I'm asleep. And, because I know how much Baggins loves sleeping in my bed, and knowing he is happy makes me happy. :D

on one level i view happiness as the joy of life, being life, and the delight in knowing it.

but somehow even happiness seems illusory, the way we normally think of it, as being opposed to sadness. then it is just another duality, or mind state, that is easily lost, and we try to hold onto happiness, even though it doesnt actually exist. Pure existence never worries about losing happiness or anything for that matter; but there is delight in what is, which is so much much more than it could ever appear to be.

happiness is just a cloud in the sky of eternal being!

most definitely illusory......

How can something which is illusory create something else which is illusory?

Thats like saying "Add half a cup of nothing to one pound of bugger all, mix in a cup of zilch and you get a pie"

What do you find when you transcend the illusion?

Happiness?

besides, something illusory wouldnt create something real, now would it?

What do you find when you transcend the illusion?

Happiness?
