What is prayer?

Is it personal? private? Or both?

What about the following quotes

"Prayer is not simply audible sounds made with the mouth. A person must feel deepoly the things he prays about, or he may be sure that his prayer is not effective"

"Personal prayer should be private" (Reference Matthew 6:5-6)

"Prayer is not conversation with another man: it is communication with God and ruler of the universe. Men are totally depenent on God for life and breath and even the ability to move. the language men use in prayer should acknowledge the difference between man and God. "Whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himelf shall be exalted." (Matthew 23:12)

Do you pray with thee, thy, thou, thine? Why or why not?

Do you pray out loud or in your mind?

How do you feel about the following quote

H. Burke Peterson said:
Listening is an essential part of praying. Answers from the Lord come quietly--ever so quietly. In fact, few hear his answers audibl with thier ears. We must be listetning so carefully or we will never recognize them. Most answers from the Lord are felt in our heart as a warm comfortable expression, or they may come as thoughts to our mind. They come to those who are prepared and who are patient. (LDS Conference Talk, Oct. 1973, p. 13)

I love the quote--I think it is true not just in prayer. When so many people today question God's existance and his purpose--I ask them if they have been listening for his message.

I tend to pray silently not out loud. I feel it is between myself and God--and whether I am asking for guidence, or thanking him for his bounty--I think it is a personal issue just between the two of us.

It can be, but prayer can also be from a congregation..........

Of course.
"Personal prayer should be private" (Reference Matthew 6:5-6)
I agree.

I agree
Do you pray with thee, thy, thou, thine? Why or why not?
It depends, some days I get mixed up, and find myself saying 'you' for 'thee'....I shouldn't think for a moment it 'bothers' God, but I feel somewhat awkward when I realise what I am saying.
Do you pray out loud or in your mind?
If I know there is no one around, I pray out loud (because it is so much easier to concentrate), but if I see anyone, I clam up.

Prayer is divine communication. In prayer, we open the door so God can draw us nigh.

I suddenly thought! The obvious answer: Prayer (for me) is 'being in touch' with God.

Prayer is communication with God . It can take any form. Silent or Verbal. It does not need a format. It is being honest with yourself and letting that go to God. Thanks... Be Well And God Bless...

"The wisdom of prayer is this: That it causeth a connection between the servant and the True One, because in that state man with all heart and soul turneth his face towards His Highness the Almighty, seeking His association and desiring His love and compassion. The greatest happiness for a lover is to converse with his beloved, and the greatest gift for a seeker is to become familiar with the object of his longing; that is why with every soul who is attracted to the Kingdom of God, his greatest hope is to find an opportunity to entreat and supplicate before his Beloved, appeal to His mercy and grace and be immersed in the ocean of His utterance, goodness and generosity." - Tablets of Abdul-Baha Abbas, Pages 683-684: gr4

one thing that i find interesting...is that in prayer we are speaking with God, and when we read the scriptures, God is speaking to us. So in that way we actually converse with God. :)

That sums it up very well. We converse with God. Simple idea that works. Not many of those simple ideas that work are around anymore. Be Well And God Bless...
