What is The Truth, and why should we pursue it?

osgart

Nothing my eye, Something for sure
If the truth is nothing more than the facts of reality, what will those facts bring humanity?

If the truth is virtue, what will those qualities of character bring to the betterment of humanity?

Is the truth tragic?

Is the truth glorious?

Or is it just a pile of unchangeable facts.

Some people are on a quest for truth, some people are just dirt digging to expose people.

Perhaps The Truth is a meaning forever lost.

What is The Truth to you?

Does The Truth exist?

So many hearts gravitate to pleasure seeking , dirt digging, fact obsession, nihilism, and relative convenience.

If the truth is noble, is it worth the effort to pursue it?

If Truth be true love, will true love make it all worthwhile, as we might be living as a passing, fading memory in the book of eternity.

Life is now, for tomorrow is no guarantee of it.

I think there is a song in this post!! A Slight reworking of the lyrics and adapted to a three cord melody and we have an interesting song possibly!

So if I shift from a descriptive point of view to an expressive point of view the question which is older? Since I am pretty sure music is way way older than language itself. I would say truth isn't literally an intellectual thing. Not saying what it is, I am just saying the descriptive tendency of present does not manifest the past is all.

gawd I am so nebulous but so is music. Listening to nirvana right now.

Think of truth as slicing hot gravy.

truth is to pursue to know , the holistic nature of a being which carries the coding to evolve the way it has and continues to. to find the nature of THIS intelligence in its entirety , the intelligence that is capable of evolving further and further to infinity. The more we know we realize we fell deeper in a bottomless rabbit hole.

The truth is unchangeable, everything else is a fixed point in space subject to conditions. Any construction of the truth based on the mutable is doomed to fail as soon as the underlying parameters change.

Thus, any real truth has to be beyond our minds because our minds change and are limited by perceptions and senses that also change. You cannot build the truth by thinking it, it has to be known directly by a means outside of our cognitive process.

That doesn't mean, however, that our axioms are useless but that they only reflect a limited understanding or a convenience. Hence, any truth you can cavil about with isn't a truth. :D Also, any truth which merely exhibits euphony isn't truth either. The 'real' truth isn't subject to our recognition, opinions, or beliefs.

I love the big questions like this. These are the questions worth asking, even if there can never be a satisfactory answer.

For me, the quest for truth should be a quest without end. Once one thinks they have the truth, they stop looking and begin to collect rust while the world around them continues to grow and change like it always has. Never get too comfortable with what you think you know. :)

IMO the truth is pretty much whatever an individual accepts as truth. Generally best not to go around insisting anybody else accept it as truth though. Just keep your truth to yourself and everybody will get along just fine.

There's a reason bards (skalds) were so important to ancient societies... People come and go, but thousands of years later their stories survive in songs. Furthermore, what is fact ceases to be important as the legend of someone's deeds eclipses the person themselves.

The truth of one's actions isn't always subject to fact...

Truth and Love are separate things, Truth is an absolute of logic and Love is the absolute of emotion. The two make up the quandary that is the Human mind. You don't need to find either but both exist. The search for the truth is an experience that opens one's mind. It changes the person through the experience. Is it worth the effort to pursue it, for some yes for others no. The truth is nothing other than truth, the experience could be noble or harrowing depending on you.

There are spiritual definitions of Truth. Not all definitions of truth are epistemological.

Loyal to the ideals of virtue is such a definition.

I suppose in a secular society people feel they have no use for spiritual truths, but to ignore such truths is to ignore an important aspect of being. The heart of being human. Ignoring that aspect is to simply let go of our individual freedoms, and rights.

You guys are so full of crap.:D

The word truth means: the true or actual state of a matter:

When you ask what is (the) truth, without reference to a specific matter, you're going to get a nonsensical reply.

Sure, anyone can make a statement about how the world actually is. Doesn't necessarily mean it is how the world actually is.
The concept of "how the world actually is" does not leave any room for "how the world actually is not." A cannot be Not-A So, when someone makes a statement about "how the world actually is" it precludes any consideration of how it is not, and is therefore a statement of truth.

Evidently you're unaware that when defining a word it's not permissible---for obvious reasons---to use that word or any of its cognates to define it.

Not always, but certainly in this case. ;)

Dictionary.com made an exception to that general rule in this case.

For a long time, the truth was whatever my parents said.

Now it's what ever I say to my kids. If you don't like it, then get out of the house.

.

Certainly, to the person making the statement.
