What is your favourite Hymn/carol

despite my inevitable crossing over to the heretical dark-side... I will always look upon my Christian upbringing with a warm feeling when it comes to the singing.

I was head choir girl at my church for 11 yrs and we performed twice weekly... there's hardly a Christian hymn I don't know... and carols I still secretly enjoy at Christmas.... (as Christmas is essentially a Pagn festical it is very easy for me to sing heartily without feeling hypocritcal)

My favourite hymn is probably Jerusalem (but that may be my patriotism) but I hope you will remind me of other favourites... Praise my soul the King of Heaven... and I vow to thee my country

My favourite carols are a tie between Angels Carol and Oh Holy Night

As a non-Christian... the music born out of Christinity is its only saving grace (I speak as a heathen) :p

Do you have different Hymns in the USA?
Do Catholics sing hymns?

With that said, Silent Night is my favorite Christmas carol. :)

Just don't make me choose my favorite Orthodox hymn, please... I'd have too many to choose from!

Though I will say that I love, love, LOVE the Rose Ensemble's rendition of Jordan's Shore (I could only find a snippet of it on iTunes); polyphonic singing is always amazing to me :D

I used to to the first verse solo of Once in Royal David City... and as Sopranos we got to do all those awesome descant bits to the final verses of such as Hark the Herald Angels sing and Oh Come all ye faithful... but ALAS - I can't for the life of me sing them now for I sound like a squaling cat.
Perhaps this is your God's punishment for leaving his church :p (or perhaps it was sucking on those satanic nicotine nips for 10yrs)
:D
miss choir - poluphonic - I like that description. as a kid I remember feeling sorry for the men in our choir cause they never got to sing the melody... I wish now I could sing harmony like they could
:)

Some of these are probably not strictly 'hymns' but in Wales, if i can be sung by a male voice choir it counts :p

I don't feel like posting any videos right now, but some of my favorite hymns are "In The Sweet By and By", "Blessed Assurance", and my favorite carol is probably "O Holy Night".

Hah, if no one's ears are bleeding by the time we're done with Vespers or Liturgy (I'm not in my church's choir, but our tradition is big on congregational singing), then I'm pleased with myself :D

I know, polyphonic singing is some of the most rich and beautiful things you can ever get :)
