What is your greatest desire?

In my religion we have the hope of being with our family forever. And this has always been my greatest desire. However, I realize that my greatest desire should be to please God. To only want to do what would bring God, my Heavenly Father, happiness. Not to be thinking about any heavenly rewards for myself.

So I still have something to work on.

I'm putting this in the Christian forum, because I'm interested to hear the thoughts of fellow Christians.

I don't see why you would want to please god if you don't expect a reward for it... I don't have a greatest desire right now. I do desire the Limited Dethalbum, but not for more off half.com than it costs new... that's ********. I'll go see how much they are going for right now.

While I don't believe Jesus to be the son of God I do try to follow many of his teachings(hence why the word "christo" is part of the name of my religion). Right now I think I have two greatest desires. that's because One or the other is bumped up depending on what critirea are required to be considered "greatest". There's the desire that I've had the longest(since middle school) and that's to become a succesful author. The second I haven't had nearly as long but has a more powerful and greater emotional hold on me, and that desire is for my boyfriend to someday become my husband.

I just desire to be successful in whatever I try to do. Whether it be my writing, my medical practice later in life, or just gettin thru high school alive.

I suppose right now to be filled with the Holy Spirit, I know he is always with us but I like when he really speaks to us and teaches us. Especially about our home in heaven.

My greatest desire is knowledge. I want to know how our universe came about, why humans are inclined towards deism (and, of course, religious interpretation of the wonders of our world), and, if life exists in other galaxies, is it similar to life as we know it?

Though my second greatest desire is probably to meet the Foo Fighters :D

I think you have it right with this. Our goal in life is to worship. By doing so, we are mimicking Jesus' life and the relationship he had with God the Father. Everything in Jesus' life was in complete unity with God the Father. He was basically a walking worship machine. This is why those that worship with all of their soul lead fulfilling lives. It's what we were created to do.

Many Christians believe that once they've accepted Jesus as their savior, they are saved and guaranteed a place in heaven. I have a similar belief that we can have that guarantee, but it only comes after we've reached the point where we have that complete unity as you described. For me, this is taking a lifetime to achieve, and I'm still a work in progress.:)

i think this is awesome... i have heard many, many LDS begin a description of their faith with the hope of having their families with them in heaven. but i feel also that as Christians, our greatest focus should be in living for God and serving Him, following Jesus and keeping His commandments, seeking to be more like Him.

these days my greatest is hope is that God will remove the boundaries that keep me from being a sister and servant to the people around me- so i can be myself, but be serving His cause, and telling others about Him.

it's difficult for many of us to pray that God will allow us into the lives of people who are suffering, so that we can be with them and relieve them, but we need to pray that, too. because to be a Christian means to serve and live with and for the suffering, in Jesus.
