I saw only one thing that bothered the mess out of me. It made me see whst people did in the old ages where protesting against abortion was a life or death issue. We have protesters at our nearby catholic parish who line up along the main road holding signs against abortion. Another time they picketed a porn business in our area away from the church and made that woman loose her business and when restablished change the layout of her store. I understand the morals but protests remind me of the reinesance where people actually got killed for not agreeing with the church.
This gave me a different view of the church. That and latin mass. If a catholic can explain he significance of protesting to the point of going over someone elses right to hold a business, please do. As for abortion, I dont agree with it and Im not a protester so seeing that makes me cringe.

Agreed. What a shocker, eh? I'd go with certainty. It is the certainty that shuts down curiosity, investigation and inquisitiveness. Since one knows all the answers there is no need to verify. That certainty breeds contempt for doubters and also gives rise to the unbridled arrogance of unfalsifiable thinking - treating whimsy as factual.

Also it cuts the believer off from the rest of humanity. It becomes an us vs them situation.

The one I despise the most:
In many cases, when Irish police would receive a complaint of sexual abuse by a priest, and rather than investigate and prosecute it themselves, they'd hand their files over to the local bishop so he could handle the matter internally.
It was a violation of trust (to the public and victims of crime) based on an overabundance of religious trust (in the Church and its administration) and religious deference. It allowed countless pedophiles to keep abusing countless children.
Promoting a belief in an afterlife. It is at the very least a major enabler for most of the other behaviors that might come to mind.
After that, the encouragement of valuing scripture over reason.

I dislike it when religion is used as a tool by the politicians and priests for political purposes so as to forcibly impose their ideas on the public, harm religions and ideologies which they don't like, and to destroy peace and harmony among diverse peoples.
Intolerance is the word, really.
Divisiveness and violence propagated by any religion or ideology should be condemned by all.
Removing the true God's name thousands of times from the Bible, while letting the names of false gods remain, is pretty high up on my list of despicable religious behavior. There are so many other things...

Why do people think they have to be in a certain posture or move in a certain way ( sign of the cross ) to get God's attention. Can't God see you if you do not do something to get his attention?
