I built it from the ground up, taking bits and pieces among a rather hostile environment.

Religion / Re-legion means Re-union with -- from where we all started the journey of life in the beginning.
It validates my experiences and what has formed my worldview.

There is no "re-joining." Tat tvam asi. Thou art that.
If by ‘special’ it is meant ‘precious,’ Sanātana Dharma is special to me because it comes with much freedom. I can subscribe to whatever darśana or philosophical school I think is the best for me, I don’t have to blindly accept any teachings, I can practice the yoga or spiritual path that I feel is best for me, and I can devote myself to whatever deity appeals the most to me. Many (not all) other religions, on the other hand, seem restrictive or limitative to me.
