I'm agnostic, but I think most religions or ways of thinking have many great qualities.
Which do you admire?

I especially like the teachings of morality and self-restraint in most religions. This, in my opinion, is the most useful aspect of religion.

God has had many messengers-among Jews, Moses and the Hebrew Prophets; among Christians, Jesus; among Muslims, Muhammad; among Hindus, Krishna; and among Buddhists, Gautama, and their are more.

The common thread running through the lives of God's many messengers is love, compassion, understanding, commitment, and respect for all living creatures.

It might therefore be assumed that by exhibiting these qualities they were demonstrating to the rest of humanity the way our Creator expects us to live. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, said about a week before his assassination on January 30, 1948: "They [the Indian people] will follow me in life, worship me in death, but not make my cause their cause."

These prophetic words could have been said by Moses, Jesus, Muhammad, Krishna, or the Buddha-beings whose life stories and lessons were enshrined into scriptures we generally read with little intention of making them a part of our lives. Each Religion has a book that attempts to give us a more direct and immediate perspective of God. I hesitate to say any one perspective is absolutely right, because as mere mortals, irrespective of our profound scholarship, experience, knowledge, training, or vision, we cannot fathom the depths of spirituality enough to presume we have the right way.

I like the old "negro spirituals" (that's what it says in the hymnbook!) as well as religously-themed classical music and gregorian chants. Pretty strange since I'm a staunch atheist.

I also admire how willing some christians are to help. My wife and kids are out of state attending a music camp and a family there just opened their house. I'm going there this weekend and am hoping they won't want me to pray with them.

Agreed! I can go to a service and not agree with more than a few words of what is said and still be so moved by the music that I want to jump up and start singing it myself, even when I strongly disagree with the words. I listen to a cassette of gregorian chants while meditating/working with the I Ching.

There's just something about music. . .

I also agree with the whole concept that most religious founders were dedicated to bringing peace to the world. I only wish more of the leaders of today would follow the examples.
When it comes down to it I think most religious followers are pretty loving/peaceful, especially ones that are into their faith. ESPECIALLY ones that are into their faith AND actually know what their faith is about. :)

I love paganism for its originality (even though most pagan beliefs are far older than any others) and beauty...for its complexity...and yet, for its simplicity.

I like agnosticism for...well, because it says more truth than anything else. (at least, in my opinion)

I love Hindu art. It's absolutely gorgeous to me. I adore Hanuman art! :D Old Christian Bibles are beautiful to me, too. The craftsmanship that into them makes the ones I own look like a couple of notebooks.

there are lots of others i am sadden to say i know nothing about, but from the ones that i do know something about i think the specific messages that they teach are what i admire the most. i think that each one has a specific message that relates to the whole. i think that understanding this is the biggest step we can make in understanding god.
