What the bleep do we know?

I looked at it in the rental store once and it looked interesting, but I decided against getting it after hearing various people rant on how it was totally inaccurate.

I thought it was pretty interesting. It made me think, and even though FatKatMatt thought it was veiled christian bashing, some of what they were saying actually strengthened my faith.

I don't know, as I haven't seen it. :) From the reviews I've read it takes (I believe) the string theory and warps it into something it's not.

EDIT: Wikipedia has a fairly good summary of the controversies in the movie, especially the supposed experts in it.

Thank you for that information (link).:)

I thought it was an excellent film. A thought provoking documentary about the nature of quantum physics with a good story wound into it to illustrate the principles.(and it's twice as good if you watch it stoned):D Though I can see how it could rattle some closed minded people. One speaker was actually a theologian who, IMO ,was merely speaking out on his distaste for the direction that religion has taken due to heavy dogmatic influence.
But my favorite went something along the lines of; this god created us ,the Earth, the solar system, the galaxies ,The entire universe, ....how could one of us , one person , sin against such a thing? That... is the hieght of human arrogance.
Don't listen to the nay sayers, if you miss this, your missing something special.:clap

I hated that line. It made me writhe inside. But that's just me... :D

I liked it too but don't anyone get me wrong, I'm not trying to make a "religion" out of it.:biglaugh:

I just happened to see it as almost some kind of a "link" between secular and religious beliefs. But you would have to be willing to bend a little no matter from what camp you come from.

there is a quote from some woman in there (blond, old, wrinkly, wearing a chinese-style jacket), that says "a god that would punish any of its followers is the most primitive thing ever" (but more eloquent).

it was a great movie. definitely worth renting. there may be some controversy, but the principles in the movie are based on current theories of quantum physics. the scientific community rarely agrees on "new" theories, but they remain just as valid as any others until they are disproven, and that has not happened.

Oh yes, that line was from Ramtha, the leader of a Washington cult who claims to be channeling the spirit of some ancient Atlantian God: http://skepdic.com/channel.html

Of course, her next line was that "we are God". Not sure how admitting sin is somehow the height of arrogance, and claiming to be God is somehow not arrogant.

I had a few problems with this film, beyond the anti-Christian sentiments. First off, it had a serve-yourself kind of philosophical message. Secondly, the whole "making your own reality" was a bit hokey. If someone can walk on water simply by knowing they can, and having no doubt in being able to do so, what happens if someone is watching them who doubts they can? Whose reality wins?

On the positive side, the film featured Fred Alan Wolf (UCLA professor of physics) and Stuart Hameroff (Arizona pioneer of Quantum consciousness), both of whom I enjoy their theories and writings.

Frankly, much of the information was misleading and a great deal of it was flat-out wrong.
