A bit of an odd combination of things in the poll - one of those things is not like the other. One is actually responsible for reporting on information accurately so we can know things about what's going on. Which we all, inevitably, use and are influenced by since it's more or less how we get information about what's going on. Exception granted for those very directly involved in politics to the point they have firsthand knowledge. For everybody else, it's news outlets that we get the information from.

Well I guess I'm just not really interested in voting. You guys who do it, that's great. I hope your pick wins. I just don't see how it will change my situation all that much either way. I think young people and seniors are mostly the ones that vote. The young people do it because they have a long work life ahead of them, and so small changes might have a larger effect, and the seniors do it because they usually have time for a lot of analysis. I am a middle-aged person without offspring, and it's just that I don't see what issue on the table is all that relevant to me

I will sometimes comment, sometimes strongly, on different political beliefs or thoughts I've had, but these are just observations from afar, in a sense. Whatever happens, happens, and my critique of it is just chatter

Nope.
The most influence on my vote is a thing we've got here in Germany called "Wahl-O-Mat". It's a page, set up by a government organization (bureau for political education). It starts with a questionnaire about my stances on political questions and displays the percentages my views align with those of the parties (who also answered the questionnaire). From there I can go deeper, to the short statement of the parties, the party's manifesto and declarations on how to implement the policy (if it isn't in the manifesto).
The only thing I miss is a report on previous performance on the matter, that's what I have to get from my memory or news searches.

In other words, I vote on matters, not party loyalty, sympathy for a candidate or endorsement by others.
Does something like the Wahl-O-Mat exist in the US? Is it used?
