What Type of Political Ideologies Do You Believe In?

Bridging the Gap Between Believers and Skeptics
Inspired by my own "What Type of Theologies Do You Believe In?" thread I have decided to make one identical to that only reflecting political ideologies rather than theological. I have decided to only use the ideologies here that are supported by their own sub-forum. There are probably a few dozen lesser-known ideologies people support, but I wanted the ones people identify with the most overall.

The poll will be identical to the one in the theology thread: multiple votes are allowed, you can change your vote at any time, you can see results without voting and votes will be public, so if you are afraid of other people seeing your votes, please abstain from voting.

Besides the obvious topic difference this will differ from the theology discussion because I'm putting this in the political debates, so people can vote in the poll, explain their position below and debate other people on the topic as well.

I intend on voting Capitalist, Conservative, Liberal, Libertarian and Other. My other is actually my main political position, which is Federalist. With the rise of the Internet I believe mostly in a one-world federal nation and the "McDonaldization" of Earth.

But I am purposely leaving out other political ideologies in order to structure the thread towards the most common ones. Ideologies such as Federalist, and its counterpart, Localist, Green, Nationalist and Centrist do have a sizable amount of following but are being omitted due to no real representation on the forums. If you check any of these or other political ideologies, feel free to check "Other" and tell us your positions.

That's all I got. Let us know how you answer the question and what you think about this topic below. And don't be afraid to debate people with other political ideologies!

At heart I am a Libertarian. On a logical level I am a Democratic Socialist based on where I think humanity is at the moment.

I believe the best type of economy is a hybrid of socialism and capitalism, and I generally favor socialist principles as a way to temper capitalism. Socially, I identify as a progressive. I don't identify as a liberal, for various reasons.

I also strongly support gender equality, so I endorse feminism as well.

The poll choices are useless to me. All those labels recognize very little about what it means to be human -- to be a social animal with the capacity to default from that social nature.

Wouldn't it really be more interesting, rather than try to put us all into various slots, to try to thing about what can make us be who we are, with each other, without having to kill each other?

With many of them I find them terrible and detrimentally anchored in the past and in need of doing away with in place of societal models that are based on technology rather than industry (and those models themselves are dinosaurs that we know just are not the best we can do).
I can say I am egalitarian, but that leaves much for interpretation. Yes, I am a feminist but I am also painfully aware of the issues that men face, especially when it comes to custody, child support and other things that unfairly favor women when kids are involved, sometimes to the point of harming the kids by sending them to an abusive mother.
Libertarian is something some people say I am and some people say I'm not. It's the same way when it comes to some people calling me an atheist and some calling me a theist, and it takes a crude, distorted stretch of either to apply them to me.

I voted socialist but social democrat is probably more accurate. Left libertarian would work too. Feminist.

an anarchist

Your local loco.
To me, the only political distinction that matters is if you are an "anarchist" or a "statist". As an actual anarchist (;)) I selected Libertarian and Capitalist. All other options would make you a "statist" imo (besides feminist. I feel one can be a feminist and hold any one of these ideologies, right?)

Yea I think that would be the best course of action.

A capitalist based system with socialist padding but with a checks and balances integrated into it to prevent extremes with either ideologies from happening that threaten people's economic and individual freedoms.

I voted "other" as my two favourite ideologies are not listed (and seemingly not in favour by others). Anarchism has been mentioned and Anarcho-syndicalism is my first choice but I know that that wouldn't fly with most people. The system that, taken to it's max, could lead into anarchism was once all the rage but has become unpopular recently. I hope we can still have Democracy anyway.

Mostly voted for old times' sake. "Other" would be whatever system reduced the global human population to a level where it was not denuding the biosphere, so presumably not one that promotes selfishness and greed. Optimistic I know.

Humans have not worked this problem out, yet. But so far representational democracy overseen by a set of rights and responsibilities seems to work the best. But unless the destructive power of commercial greed is restricted, no government or society will stand against it for long. So the solution will have to include a remodel of the economic system as well as the governmental system if it's going to stand against corruption and abuse.

To me, it's beginning to look like we need to develop a kind of dual economy. One that's very 'socialized' and intended to ensure that everyone has access to the basic needs of living in a modern inter-dependent society, and the other more open and 'capitalized' and able to accommodate those who live for material "success". Once we all cooperate to make sure everyone's basic needs are being met, we would then be free to explore other avenues and pursue other rewards, so long as they do not threaten the systems we have set up to enable our all living together.

The answer, I think is going to have to be a hybrid of ideologies overseen by a set of unbreakable principals.
