What Was The First Movie You Saw?

What was the first conscious memory of the first movie that you ever saw in a theater?

How old were you?

Who brought you?

My father managed Middlehope Drive-In for several years and my mother claims that my sister and I went plenty of times when we were babies but I do not remember the experiences.

The first movie I saw in the theater at the age of 5, was Chitty Chitty, Bang Bang. It was in an old theater in Goshen, NY that no longer exists. I went with my Aunt Annie (my mother’s sister).

My mother said her first theater experience was Gone With The Wind which also turned out to be her favorite movie.

Can't brain. Has dumb.
The very first film I went to see was The Lion King. No idea how old I was, but it was in the town (pop. 4,000) theater. There wasn't, and hasn't yet been since, a proper movie theater, they just hung a massive white sheet above the stage and hired a big projector for it. Every seat was full. And it was very very exciting indeed ^_^

My first movie was once of two. It was either Star Wars: Return of the Jedi or The Wiz. I was about 6 or 7.

Star Wars (1977)

Maybe Troublemane can help me out here with my memory. We did see it as a family a few times, but I think the first time was in the theatre, and we eventually saw it at the Drive-In when we had our huge van.

That Drive-In experience is burned forever in my memory because that night was a double feature...... Star Wars and then Invasion of the Body Snatchers with Donald Sutherland. Our dad wanted to stick around and watch the Body Snatchers, and I had the guts to stay up and watch most of it with him.

Freaked. Me. Out.

The first movie-going experience I remember was hating the hell out of Disney's adaptation of The Jungle Book.

I also don't remember not knowing The Princess Bride line for line.

The first one I remember watching is Short Circuit :)

I think I may have been 4 or something like that. It's where I learned how to do an Indian accent that people actually find convincing, lol.

I've been told that this was my first movie, though being only a few months old, I slept through most of it.

Well, I was four years old when I saw Star Wars for the first time, and I developed my first massive crush on a man at that age when I saw Harrison Ford strut his stuff.

That crush continued for years and years, and seeing that my crush on him hadn't waned, I wrote him a fan letter around the time of The Empire Strikes Back. I told him that I was 8 years old, that I loved his movies, that I thought he was a very good actor, and that he was really cute.

He sent me an autographed picture. *swoons*

Fun fact: at least part of that movie was shot in Toronto. In one street scene (with skateboarders riding by, IIRC), you can see the Computerland store where my Dad worked briefly.

Another fun fact: the Denny's in the movie the Santa Clause is just down the street from where I grew up in Toronto. It closed as a Denny's, re-opened as another restaurant, then closed and reopened as a video rental store, and finally closed and reopened as a convenience store. It still has that Denny's look to it.

Jurassic Park, when I was 4 or 5, I think. It scared me so much. I went with my parents and older sister. My younger sister hadn't been born yet.

The first grownup movies I remember seeing was Lawrence of Arabia (1962), followed by Viva Las Vegas (64), and Flight of the Phoenix (65).

I know that I saw Fantasia and Snow White when I was even younger, but I can't remember the year.

Mom took us (my sister and I) to each of the movies.

I was seven years old when I saw Lawrence of Arabia, with Peter O'Toole.

This is a coincidence because this would possibly be the second (or third) movie I saw in a theater. It was with my Aunt Gloria Santiago ( my father's sister) that took me. This would put me at about 10 years of age in an era where theaters were far and few between. My mother never got a license to drive and there really would be no reason for my father who'd managed a drive-in to take us to a theater.

Done here.
The first movie I ever saw in a theater was Mary Poppins. My dad took me downtown to see it one Sunday after church. (My mom stayed home with my brother, who was too young to take to the movies.) I don't remember much about the storyline, but I have vivid memories of the musical numbers.

The first movie I remember watching on television was The Wizard of Oz, but I imagine there were probably others before that. Probably Westerns, which were very popular when I was little.

I think I went to see Return of the Jedi in theaters, but I was 3 at the time, so I don't remember it at all. I sort of remember seeing Short Circuit in theaters, and I'm sure I saw others before this one, but the first one I clearly remember seeing in theaters was Willow when I was eight.

I loved The Jungle Book! I was seven years old, and I went around singing "The Bear Necessities" (or is it "The Bare Necessities"?) for weeks.
Look for the bare necessities
the simple bare necessities
forget about your worries and your strife
I mean the bare necessities
that's why a bear can rest at ease
with just the bare necessities of life
