what would a new religion have to be like to replace all the other religions?

Why does everyone think of mystery, magic, and myth when they think of religion, old or new?

Christianity and Islam were considered to be far advanced over the old beliefs of the day from one to two millenia ago when they spread over the continents. So unscientific doctrines, mysticism and myth are not what made them successful A successful religion now in modern times would also have to be advanced for the times. All the new ones described in this forum are static, unsuccessful. None of them show any promise of replacing the old religions that now divide the world.

In http://civilization-overview.com you can find a facsimile of what a modern one would have to be like to succeed.

On the contrary, I think that a new religion would still have to be monotheistic.
Now, what this "theos" is can be debated, but...

Um, both. It's religion. It's not supposed to make a great deal of sense.

Christianity and Islam were considered to be far advanced over the old beliefs of the day from one to two millenia ago when they spread over the continents.
But were they really advancements? Considering that both piggybacked and borrowed from Judaism, it was more of a opportunistic leap of faith rather than any kind of so-called advance.

So unscientific doctrines, mysticism and myth are not what made them successful.
Actually mysticism and myth were what fueled them. To minimize these aspects is to miss a facet of their enduring nature.

A successful religion now in modern times would also have to be advanced for the times.
Like a progressive meme that shouts down all opposition to itself with overbearing self-righteousness?

All the new ones described in this forum are static, unsuccessful. None of them show any promise of replacing the old religions that now divide the world.
So.... you want to create a new religion thereby introducing yet another division in humanity. Freaking brilliant.

So we're going to make "progressive" thought the new opiate of the simple, unwashed masses? What fun.

I think an ability to provide correct and meaningful answers to humankind's questions would be a good first step. I've never seen a religion that actually does that.

Maybe we're just not asking the right questions.
Or we're just not asking the questions right.

no religion could replace all the religions based off its doctrine and decelerations of faith.

if a new religion poped up and started to solve all the worlds problems like hunger war diseas...then it could take over.

No religion ever solved the problems of hunger war and disease. In fact those are the very things that drive people to religion. If a new religion did offer solutions to those problems, I suspect that it would face vehement opposition from powerful and well-funded interest groups whose power is derived from the management of those problems.

Some might say that christianity or islam or buddhism have within them the solutions to those problems, but that would be pointless assertion given that the problems were never overcome.

Christianity teaches 'resist ye not evil' and 'give unto caesar what is caesar's', so has implicitly capitulated at the get go, and I note that Gautama was royalty and his analysis of the causes of human suffering did not mention minority control of resources or the conscription of common people into wars.

I think a 'new' religion would only arise as a response to a new kind of crisis, like an alien invasion or total environmental collapse - something which undermined existing power structures (within and without) at a root level.

Personal religion: each individual discovers God by himself as himself and for himself. All religionists went through the same process, they comprehend each other and love each other. There is no more organized institution of religion such as Christianity.

Buddhism is far older than both Christianity and Islam. Works great in my opinion.

Scientology?

I would suggest you look into the history of it, it was not designed to solve world problems?

As the British program Panorama put it:

The Secrets of Scientology (4/4) - YouTube

A four part youtube of what was on the BBC

A short monograph on the topic, With all of the different religions, how can I know which one is correct?

i wonder if a thinktank somewhere isn't pondering that very question ... some genetically engineered aliens to trump our geopolitical gridlock, or circumvent the rising power of islam or china ? might work

is more advanced proved by technology, poetry or happiness ?

Sadly I agree with that. Most certianaly would mix things up.
I would hazard Technology...albeit in any halfway decent society all three should grow together.

Maybe the most successful new religion would give each convert a million dollars. There's a novel concept--a church that gives you money rather than asking for it.
