What would it take?

What would it take for you to change your opinions, even though you believed with all your heart that they are right?

Would you be willing to die for what you believe in?

If you believed that the Nazi's were wrong, and you were given a choice, join them, or die, what would you choose?

Personally, I am willing to die for what I believe in, I will not change my opinions/beliefs in the face of force. Now, thats not saying my opinions/beliefs are set in stone, they can be changed, but not by force.

How about you?

Force can't change opinion . It usually strenghtens the opposite opinion . But as for your question , I'm not a joiner ... but on the other hand , my opinions are just that , opinions , and if a better one comes along ... :)

Opinions..... am changing them in the light of experience all the time.
Beliefs........Can change or develop with learning and study and lead to.........
Faith...... Quite a different matter, it may alter in small detail over time as faith tends to be a process. But it is not something you can change ar give up.

Yea , I had a good idea what you meant . :) Opinions change all the time . But we usually fit the changes in with the beliefs that we already have . However , chance enough opinions , and those beliefs may start to change also . And this is where I disagree with Terry , change enough beliefs , and Faith also begins to change .

But it is a matter of time , and degree . So no , Faith , and beliefs usually don't change over night . Although there are times when they do , and people sometimes refer to those times as " enlightment ". But I believe that the changes were still happening over time , only on a subconscious level .

I guess I have certain beliefs I would not relinquish; but many more I am not that strongly wedded to. I certainly wouldn't die for my belief that green peppers or olives just aren't necessary. I also wouldn't die for my belief against reality TV. You get the picture.

I consider myself a survivor...and in such a situation, I think I would join. Although it always depends on the situation. I'm not willing to kill the masses or do terrible wrongs to people just because of my instictive nature.

But " joining " doesn't mean that you have changed anything . Survival is another matter . The Nazis for excample . The people of Germany at the time had little choice but to " go along ", but many didn't believe in their cause . Many didn't even know what they were untill too late , I would think .

If everyone held to their beliefs , without blending at all , it would be quite easy to destory that belief , simply by destorying those people . But beliefs are never that easy to destory because most people are flexible . They carry their beliefs within , enough if they may not be showing them .

Martyrs are interesting people , but if every Christian had been martyrs , where would the religion be today ? :) Most likely we would be reading about it in history books .
