What Would You Do If You Found 1000 Dollars on the Ground?

The Sum of Awe

Most people would turn it in rather than just take it.

So would you (A) keep it or (B) turn it in?

Now, would it make a difference of what you'd do if you found it in ALL pennies (scattered on the sidewalk, not all in one area)

A Keep it. To whom would I turn it into?

If I found a wallet with $1000.00 in it I would turn it in with the $1000.00 intact.

If I found 1,000 on the ground, I'd keep it and call it my lucky day. Now if it was 1,000,000 pennies, I'd take what I could carry with me and hope I was wearing some Tripp pants that day.

I would keep it because any fool dumb enough to not keep 1,000 USD secure is not worthy enough of having it

If I knew who it belonged to I would give it back. If it is in a wallet, I'd turn it into the police. If it was just loose and floating around, there would be no way to find out who it belonged to.

I would pick it up and hang around for a while in case someone comes back looking for it. If not, i'll take it, give something like 200/300 dollars to any homeless person i know (probably more if i'm in a really good mood), or anyone who could really use some money, then take the rest.

Now, would it make a difference of what you'd do if you found it in ALL pennies (scattered on the sidewalk, not all in one area)

Yeah, i wouldn't pick it up, as i'd think it's not worth the effort. May be i'd feel differently if i was poorer, but as it is, i wouldn't bother.

I might try to tip off somebody as close by as possible who'd be willing to put such an effort. Somebody who could really use the money.

The church provides me with a "save the children" collection box. I put in all my low denomination cash, and any money I find in the street.
I would be very surprised to find $1000 loose in the street (or even pounds or euros) .... but that box is where it would go... the government would then be very kind, and add in the standard tax equivalent value, as for all my charitable donations.

As I do not hand it over till the end of the year, there would be plenty of time for the original owner to claim it.

I have noticed that more and more young people just throw away copper coins as if they were valuless.............

But first I would take them to the supermarket and change them so they might fit in the box.

I give it to the police or i try to find the person (someone did that for me once for my ID)
If i can't know who is the person (no wallet, no id), i let the money were i found it in case the person will come back. (Yeah someone else can take it instead)

I'd take a wallet with 1,000 in it to the nearest police station and file a report. (In Canada, if no one claims the property within one calendar year, you get to keep your find.) In retrospect, I'd even turn in a $1000.00 bill. That way, you are off the hook, legally... and morally.

If I saw a mass of pennies on the ground, I'd call the police and tell them to come investigate. I'd stay on location till the police arrived (if I had nothing more important to do, of course.)

Plus.... I'd start looking for a camera to see if this was some kind of a setup for a TV audience's enjoyment.

In a wallet, take it to whoever it belonged to. Lying around, pick it up and hang around for a bit to see if anybody came looking. If not, keep it. If I ever saw a sign posted in the area saying "I lost some money" I'd call. I wouldn't trust the police not to stick it in their own pocket.

If it was pennies, I'd have to double check whether I can still get money for them. They're been phased out in Canada. :p

If so, I'd do it with a shovel and a truck.
