you're out for a late dinner with a female friend, the table next to yours is occupied by some loud and unruly looking men, one of them says something completely inappropriate and vulgar to your friend and they all laugh. What do you do?
do you get up and demand an apology? do you ignore it and tell your friend that it's a good idea to leave right away?
if you get up and get confrontational, it could get physical and you will be beaten up(let us assume you will get beaten up,please don't say that you learnt some iron-palm or golden fist technique or whatever from some shaolin monk, or some other reason which makes you invincible); looking at what's going on, your friend may interfere in an effort to shield you and she may be manhandled as well or once you're incapacitated after the fight, she would be more vulnerable
so, walking off is the correct option, your friend should be practical and understand that this is the best option? but would you feel somewhat diminished in her eyes after this?
or would you rather opt for the possible physical confrontation, nevermind the consequences, you will not tolerate such behaviour as a matter or principle?
